Electric grain mill......... maybe need new grinding mechanism?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I bought an electric grain mill at an auction. It is HEAVY cast iron, with kind of an urn looking contraption on the top where you put the grain. The tag on the machine is old and faded. I think I can raise some information on it by shading with a pencil. Anyway, when grinding wheat, it takes four or five passes to grind it to where it resembles some kind of whole wheat flour. Is this normal? Is it possible that the grinding mechanism needs sharpening/replacement? How would one find out about replacement parts. I will look to see if I can get more info, but as I recall it was a Universal from Chicago. Havn't tried them yet..... Thanks
