VCD halts suddenly after few seconds of play

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Me and my friend are trying to play a Radiohead VCD from the CD drive on his computer, but whenever we start playing, it would run for a few seconds and then windows media player would pop an error message and the video would not work. The same thing would happen on three other players we tried to play it on. If it did not have an error message, it would just stop playing or crash. We can play it on another computer we tried so it was not a problem in the CD. We can also move the seeking bar to different places in the movie and it would go to that scene but it would crash like it did at the start after a few seconds of play.

It seem to be a bad VCD with lots of scratches. Maybe the labelled side of this VCD is damaged (You can see through those minute holes) but a good CD-ROM drive like ASUS/ACER will still play it. This VCD will also play in a stand-alone VCD player. Also check your PC for correct DirectX drivers.
