I was wondering if anyone knew whether it was possible to have smart running on one server but accessing a database on another altogether. What I have in mind is to have the script access a database held on a machine running personal web sharing. The reason is I would feel happy allowing my colleagues access to update the data on this machine, with no danger of them inadvertantly deleting the script or other part of our web site. I have tried substituting the path to the data with the url of the machine running web sharing but I guess it's not that simple. Is it possible to access another machine witha path, or is it possible to modiy the script to accept a URL instead?
