I cant play any VCDgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread
I have a problem , WHen i try to play a dat file, WMP says it cant recognise the file format and so do all the other players except powerdvd which shows part of the picture with green pixels and clipped sound. Ive tried many vcd ( all original ) and I have a win 98 OS

My answer might seem funny. But If I double click the .dat files, WMP can't recognise it. But if I first open WMP and then just drag the .dat file on it, it plays fine. Hope it helps

Re-install Win98se and remember that WMP is the best player for VCD's and MPEG files ...as far as playback quality is concerned. So don't mess it up by installing other players like Zing, Powerplayer etc. They seem to alter some files needed by WMP Also check if your laser lense of the CD-ROM is clean. You may have to open it and wipe it clean very carefully.
