Quake Shakes San Clemente Area

(KFWB) 8.16.01, 11:30a -- A magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook the San Clemente area at around 11:04am today. There are no reports of damage or injuries.

KFWB's Jack Popejoy reports that the quake was directly West of San Diego, and about 7 miles Southeast of San Clemente Island.

The quake may have occurred on the same fault that produced the island itself, Popejoy reports.

The depth of the quake was not immediately clear.

Boeing employee Mike Pollack told KFWB that he was in the third floor of a Huntington Beach building when the quake hit. He felt a rolling sensation for about 30 seconds.

There were quite a few nervous people in the building, Pollack said. "Some of the people got up and walked out," he said.
