Need Feeder Pigs South of Kansas City, KS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello out there CSM forumers :-)! Our farm is about 50 miles south of Kansas City (just north of a little spot called Beagle, KS) on HWY 7. We've been to several of the livestock sales recently looking for pigs to raise and haven't found much. Would much rather buy them from another homesteader, so if anyone in this area has any let us hear from you please! Might email me with what you have and how much you want for them.

Right now we just a couple or three (Yorks, if you got em') to fatten out, but eventually I want to have my own breeding stock. Would like to get York sows and a good Duroc boar to start.

Hope your day is filled with as much love and laughter as mine is!

Thanks, Phil and the gang

Phil - We are in Holden, MO, about 50 ESE of KC. You may already be aware there's a sale barn in Archie MO. Don't know when their pig sales are. There's a large sale barn in Kingsville MO ( about 5 miles from my house) that has periodic sheep and pig sales and weekly cattle sales. We just check the local weekly paper for sale dates. If you see any livestock market quotes for Kansas City, they come from the Kingsville sale barn. We bought pigs in early June and the selection was good but the prices were high. $64/hwt then was about average. Let me know if you want more info; I can let you know sale dates. We are thinking of starting a small purebred herd. We are leaning toward Berkshires right now, but won't do anything for awhile. Gotta get the ones for custom butcher finished and delivered first. Good luck in Beagle.
