How do you seal a cracked stone and mortar water trough?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

On my property is a stone and mortar water trough that is about thirty years old that seems to not hold much water. It seems that water leaks through very small cracks in the mortar.

What is the best thing to water seal cracked mortar. If the answer is new mortar, what type of mortar mix should I use?

if they are REAL small cracks,, no spaces,, you can use a paint on concrete sealer. Otherwise, they make concrete in a tube,, like caulking

I use a product from SEALWALL Inc.I think the company is in Eastlake Ohio. It's a quick set hydraulic cement,non-shrink.I have used it to repair a leak in my spring house trough some 4 yrs. ago and so far haven't had any more problems. One thing about it,this stuff really sets fast so you mix small batches at a time.If I remember correctly it comes in 3 lb. plastic pails..........
