Al, my theological training was confined to admonishments to "be good" as I gazed out a window wishing to be elsewhere and wishing I could trade the leotards for jeans. I have a hazy notion that every major religious sect originally based in the Middle East is waiting for something.

Jews are waiting for the Messiah. Christians are waiting for the Messiah to come back bringing the apocalypse. Bahai' say the Messiah came back already, but they are still waiting for the apocalypse. Moslems are waiting for an apocalypse but not a Messiah. I think Zoroastrians are waiting for an apocalypse, but I could be wrong.

I'm not clear on what Eastern religions may be waiting for, but I have the impression that their traditions include periodic destruction of mankind leading up to a final destruction.

Al, why wait passively for inevitable destruction? Why not try to make things better in the meantime and try to avoid final destruction? Why would it fly in the face of God to spend this time working toward world peace instead of preparing for destruction? Why wouldn't it be God's will that we find a way to come together as imperfect human beings? We're all gonna die anyway, why isn't it enough that we each find a spiritual path to God while we work for a hands-on way to peace?

Hey Naji, when the friggin’ Beast shows up to take over, it will find that the competition for Ultimate Ruler of the Universe is rather stiff.
