I was automatically signed up for this after rec'ving an e-mail that said I was invited to join and they got my name from the CS board. I didn't reply to join and thought that would be the end of it. I got 12 e-mails from the board today and it took two e-mails to unsubscribe!

Anyone else enrolled without their knowledge? I'm sure someone meant well, I just try to edit my sub lists since it is easy to get overwhelmed.

I probably got the same invitation that you did. I did sign up for the list, but I went to the yahoogroups website and set my subscription option to web only so my mailbox wouldn't get swamped.

Probably an attack of the spam robots that pick up addresses, which is why you see a lot of fake addresses on discussion boards. It's sad, but those who send spam don't care.

Yahoo Internet Life or something like that send us a magazine in the mail! And then a bill for 30 some odd dollars for the subscription. And now I have to waste a stamp to tell them to keep their magazine, we never ordered it! I have no idea about it at all and I know Steve didn't do it.

Anne: I got the email too and haven't decided yet about joining. Are you sure somebody else in your household didn't hit the reply button? If so there will be a message in your "sent" folder.

Gee... and here I thought I was 'special'... ;o)

I got the email and did join but made sure I changed the preferences to avoid all the email. I did get an email from someone here in my home town looking to move to 12 acres they just got. That was kind of neat. I guess I can't see a downside to more insights and ideas.

Hi Anne,

If you scroll down to the bottom of the text of the invitation, it does show a couple of names as the sponsors. The text also indicates that your name was gleaned from an online forum or homesteading list (or something to that effect.)

I have subscribed to a couple of Yahoo.groups and they can be fun. You can set it up to get a thread of the topics instead of every single email that gets posted, although I can't remember how. I would guess there's directions somewhere!

This one is moderated and promised to focus on (and delete non- related topics, I think) homesteading and frugal living. Guess a person could be on a half-dozen lists and forums (or probably more!)

Hello everyone. I'm the moderator of the HFLN group. Our group isn't much diferent than other groups, except for one major point. We discuss homesteading and frugal living subjects only. We only formed it because we got tired of reading about 'My Jesus is better than your Jesus', virus warnings, news stories off-subject, and so on. It was set up so that man/woman/black/white/brown/American/Canadian/Australian/or whatever could have a neutral zone to talk about these subjects. We don't discuss religion, politics, social issues, business offers. True, I've had people quit the list because they could not post their message about prescription drug coverage or gun control or animal rights, but I don't think it has hurt us overall. Once a month we have a 'Farmers' Market Day' (the 1st of every month) where people are free to advertise their businesses, barter, and so on. We just started a seed-savers section and we take a little pride in our links and bookmarks section. We've tried to keep it as non-commercial and easy to use as possible. Those ads you see on the page are part of the price for using Yahoo. There is a program that you can download for free called AdSubtract that takes out advertisements - but it also takes out the cookies that help you log on to a site, so each time you would have to re-input your user name and password. We attempt to be very friendly and I sure as heck do try to keep out web predators.

We do not (NOT) arbitrarily subscribe anyone to the list. I do send invitations but people are free to ignore it or join, their choice. The only way those who receive the invitation can join is to reply to the message. For those of you who I may have sent out more than one invitation, my apology.

Another thing we are striving for is to protect the privacy of our list members. The member list is NOT viewable by anyone on the list - period.

So if you have the inclination, please join us.
