Unusual pickling recipes?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Have you tried playing around with the standard pickling recipes in the Ball Blue Book? I have summer squash aplenty, and I'm going to put them in the juice for bread and butter pickles, prepped exactly the same way as I'd do cukes. How bad can they be? Well, I'll let you know! Have any different recipes to share?

Cathy, Irene gave you my favorite relish recipe. The first one. You can substitute yellow squash. Especially the ones that get too big. I scoop the seeds out and grind them. You can also use cucumbers that get to big for salad. It all tastes the same but looks slightly different. Sometimes I grind up two or three jalapeno peppers to make some of it hot. Irene, thanks for reminding me of that recipe. Blessings Peggy
