Barn Doors

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I recently bought a small farm. I have a horse barn that is two years old. I am in the process of converting this horse barn into a woodworking shop. The barn has no doors. I am looking for plans for building barn doors. Any suggestions on the best way to build doors? The barn is approximately 30x50.

Thomas, I bought a book last year on building all kinds of doors. It's at home and I'm at work and I don't remember the exact name. I will get the particulars to you tomorrow. It's really quite a good book, with lots of ideas and the drawings to go with them.

Build It Better Yourself by Rodale Press (Organic Gardening magazine) has some good information. We have three types of doors on our barn; sliding, entry, and dutch. I couldn't be without any one of them. The sliding door allows you to bring in large loads (lumber?), the entry door speaks for its self and the dutch door occasionally acts as a window and ventilation were we needed another door and couldn't put in a window.
