Sunrise photo

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Was looking forward to any interesting opinions I could get on this image. I am new to photography, and am looking to the more experienced to help guide my growth as a photographer with constructive criticism. Thanks all.

You tried to insert an image, but it's not an image. Perhspa you were trying to provide a link, as follows: http:// www.geocities.com/phoenixg9/Nature_photos.html

The sunrise photos are nicely colored but the composition could use some work. The focus is the sky here (I assume) so I'd suggest including less ground and more sky. The Joshua tree/yucca gives it perspective, but it should be an accent and not the main focus.

It would add to your photo presentation if you worked in your scanning program to turn the dark foregrounds in all three shots to absolute black, not the charcoal gray they are now.

You're losing most of your sillouette. You need to make sure that your siluette can be seen clearly and that the eye is drawn to it. Observe the rule of thirds. You have way too much ground. sacrifice ground for sky, zoom in some, and bracket.

First, get your horizon level, then the foreground would acutally be better black, like said above, then, If you still want to work with this picture, instead of using another, I would crop out the bottom so you only have about a quarter inch or less of sky. That will give the Sunset the emphasis instead of the ground. Also, the cactus on the left is distracting. Less is more.

Well, less ground, as others suggested, also, DOF to bring the cactus into focus, and get the cactus black. Finally, (not about the pics themselves) the background on your website really detracts from the images. Chose something lighter and less busy.
