Computer manufacturer Gateway said it was beginning the process of closing its operations in the UK and Ireland.

"We're beginning the consultative process there," a spokeswoman said, insisting that no final decision on closing the plants has been made yet.

In all, 185 jobs will be lost in the UK, most of them in the company's sales and marketing division at Uxbridge.

In Ireland, which is the company's European headquarters, 850 jobs could go at the Dublin plant.

Some 15 retail stores may also be closed.

Those Gateway clowns are TOAST...Also getting away from "custom manufacturing" of consumer, but NOT business, computers.

Thus, they cede the custom computer business to DELL, which has most of the Corporate Accounts already, and shafting their loyal base of ordinary customers.

That clown Wiatt must have a Death Wish!
