HELP!!! We bought 25 turkeys...13 have died...don't know why. They start to look scruffy, have poor self care, and just get weaker and die rather suddenly. Being fed non-medicated "turkey food" that is recommended...Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Where did you purchase them? Were they vaccinated? I bought some at a birdshow and lost all. I'll only buy from hatcheries or someone I know now.Try giving them just scrambled eggs mashed up. Maybe their feed is not agreeing with them.Wish I could help more.

How old are they? If they are babies are you keeping them warm? Poults should be fed game bird starter crumbles, which is 28 percent protein and is medicated. They should be kept on wire out of their droppings if possible. How are their droppings? Jo Ann

When you raise turkey poults or bring them home, put a clove of crushed garlic in the drinking water (at the rate of a clove to 10 litres) every day. You will never get blackhead, the turkeys will flourish and you can run them with your chickens. Do it the natural way and don't buy medicated food - your stock will be healthier. The chickens love the water too!!! (as do the ducks and geese!)
