Power blackout hits parts of Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): A power blackout hit most parts of Greater Jakarta on Thursday afternoon at around 4:15 p.m. as 21 main electricity relay stations experienced damage, reports said.

General Manager of the state electricity company (PLN) in the Jakarta, Tangerang and Bekasi areas Margo Santoso said, as quoted by El Shinta radio station, that the 21 electricity relay stations in Jakarta, each rated at 500 KV, were struck by technicaltroubles.

Among the 21 stations were those in Cawang, Pulogadung, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Pegangsaan, Pulomas, Jati Padang, Ancol, Dukuh Atas, Pondok Kelapa, Angke, Ketapang and Kemayoran.

"Residents in those areas have to be very careful as the problems took place at relay stations along the Cibinong - Bekasi line and we are working on the repairs. The cause of the incident is still unknown," he said.

Reports also said some people were trapped in elevators such as in the Bumi Putera building on Jl. Jend. Sudirman in Central Jakarta.
