A rash (what is it?)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

For the last few weeks, I have been getting spots mostly on the trunk of my body. They start as a small pimple and redden and itch like the devil. I thought something was biting me in the night, but hubby doesn't have them. The rash has been getting progressively worse and I mentioned it to a friend. She said her sisters and their children had them and they thought it was the chicken pox. the doctor told them it is a rash caused by a a virus and it will pass. In the meantime, I am using Gold Bond Powder and it is spreading to my legs and arms. Also, it is in places one doesn't scratch discreetly! LOL! If I go to a doctor, he will give me some drug to stop the itch, but it will also make me uselessly sleepy. Has anyone else heard of this rash?

Think Scabies. Have you shared clothing with anyone else? A relative of mine had scabies and it took three doctors to diagnose it.

Hope you feel better real soon!

Shingles. It is a virus related to the chicken pox virus, mostly seen in adults instead of children.

I think it lasts a few weeks. Do a web search on it and see if the symptoms match

The description of small red pimples with lots of itch does sound like scabies which you can catch from others, dirty conditions, contact with livestock, ect. I have had them and the shampoo for treating body lice works well.

I don't know about a solution but, how about some cortizone cream. Doctors now have some new meds available to them they didn't have before. Just ask for something that won't interfere with your daily schedule.

Guess what! I am 99% sure it is shingles! I researched it and, yup, it sure sounds like it! My mother had a few bouts with shingles year ago. I will stay away from children though as it is linked to chicken pox! Thanx and God bless!

I found an absolute cure for heat rash-prickly heat. You scrub the areas hard with a washclothe and Dial soap and take the old skin off. Then you use pimple cleansing pads, 1% salicylic acid, and rub them hard. It's a miracle, it really works. Stops the itching instantly and starts to heal. You have to keep the pores open and clean as heat rash is sweating under the skin. It goes away and stays away if you don't let the pores get clogged again.

Well, back to the drawing board as it isn't shingles 'cause shingles are supposed to be painful. I pretty much ruled out scabies cause I don't have livestock and I don't use clothing from others. From what I've researched on scabies the spots don't sound like them either. It could be an allergic reaction, but to what! Any drug from a doctor will make me out-of-it cause I'm very sensitive to them. You should see me on predizone! Oy vey!

I can't see any reason why shingles (caused by chicken pox virus) couldn't erupt like chicken pox does. May not be typical, but could happen. Also, it might simply be that your nerves aren't as prone to being affected painfully by the virus as are other people's; or you may have a variant strain of the virus.

So, Irene, how's YOUR rash coming along? Did you figure out what treatment to try?

Ardie, I can't begin to guess. Irene, Ardies symptoms don't sound like what I THOUGHT you might have had.

Irene, your's is just heat rash. Read up a couple posts. It really works, and don't put stuff on it to clog up the pores more, you must keep the skin pores open and clean, scrubbed hard clean and use the pimple pads after every shower, and a washclothe and the pads several times a day till it is gone.

Sounds like possible detergent rash. Jeans are heavier than t-shirts and blouses and will retain soaps. Have to change detergents every once in a while cause suddenly, I'll go allergic to it. Same with soaps.

I am thinking that Don may be right! I know someone with psiorsis (sp) and it is supposed to also be painful. For her, it is not. This certainly looks like chicken pox although if it is shingles, it isn't painful at all! Hey, maybe I have chicken pox! As a child, I had a very mild case of it with no fever or discomfort! Thank you all for the help and information. Irene, I hope you get rid of your rash and feel better! God bless!

Ardie

My shingles at the pitiful age of 28 were painful. They ran along a nerve cluster from the middle of my spine, under my ribs to my groin, on the right side only. Moms were on the optic nerve, but not painful.I am not sure, but I don't believe they are contagious. They result from the chicken pox virus that lay dormant in the spine until resurfacing. And guess what. My optitian says it is still in my spine, waiting for round 3!
