I want to know which is easier liquid or the energy ball, and are there any other types of rave dancing?

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2001

Answers

I think that raving is awesome, and i know no other types, and I think that they are both about equal, but probably liquid is more basic, although the energy ball looks cooler. Matt

There are as many different ways to dance as their are people who go to raves. Liquid is what you will see people doing with glow sticks most of the time, but you can also put them on strings... called twirling. Breakdancing while not originally a 'rave' dance has become more popular among the Drum and Base, and Jungle crowd. Not to mention all the different ways people jump, spin, and bounce. Just feel the music, let go, and move with it.

Check out http://www.homeofpoi.com/ for detailed spinning info...

Popping, tutting, hitting, locking, waving, liquid, break, ball, sticking, stringing, boxing, gliding, body tracing, flexing... the list goes on and on. I personally believe the ball to be easier than liquid, but that's just an opinion. BTW, if anyone knows of any sites containing some dance vids, could you please write me and tell me? thanks.

well i was just wonder if anyone can teach me how to rave. like have a video clip or something of some moves.thanks

THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF STYLES THAT ONE CAN RELATE TO, LIKE RUBIN POPPING, TUTTING LOCKING, WAVES THE BOXES ENERGY BALLS STRINGS MUPPET CONFUGURATIONS BREAK DANCING HAT TRICKS AND SO FORTH ARE ALL PART OF ONE GIANT CIRCLE A PERSON CAN REACH, IF THEY APPLY THERE MIND TO IT. FLUID AND THE ENERGY BALL ARE TWO OF THE EASIEST THINGS I FIND TO DO NOW, TRANSFERS ARE THE HARDER PART ..IE... YOU START OFF IN LIQUID NOW FROM LIQUID TRY TO FLAWLESSLEY TRANSFER INTO A BALL CONFIGURATION, THE BALL TO A BOX FROM THERE TUTTING INTO HARD POPS LOCKING, AND STALLS. THER ARE MANY OTHER PATTERNS THAT I AM TRYING TO ACOMPLISH BUT THE MIND HAS TO PRECEIVE THIS TASK AND SET FORTH TO A DREAM.

I HATE POOSERS DAMNIT

-- Anonymous, October 29, 2001

listen up michael dont be a prick, b/c there would be no raves if it werent for the *posers* b/c then no one would ever try new stuff b/c then they would be posing, therefore our raves would die off b/c nobody would be there except the people that were born ravers, in there ufo pants, and glow sticks in hands, and probably most posers out there can complete a simple sentence, and can spell posers, unless you were trying to spell pooser...?

-- Anonymous, October 29, 2001

I have been partying for two years now and i learned all by myself. Its very important to have your own style of dancing, yes i can do liquid, but every other joe blow can do it to, but no one can dance exacly like me. I looked really stupid when i first started but now i can kick shit up (if i do say so myself). Practice, and drugs make perfect.

G'd out

dont mail me shit, i'll get mad...

-- Anonymous, October 31, 2001

i think that its very important to develop you own style. sure its fun to learn new things, but putting them together to develop you own personal thing is best. the more you dance, the more youll learn what you body likes to do. stick with that for now. then you can develop new stuff. ^_^

-- Anonymous, November 11, 2001

For all you people tryin to learn.....just go for the party and you will inadvertently learn through osmosis ( hehe ). As a student you will find that there are teachers everywhere;)

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Listen to the music and follow your own groove, most importantly have fun. If your one of those people who cares what others say...DON'T! We all looked a little uncoordinated at one point in time. Dance is all about self expression, express yourself don't try to mirror someone else's style. Key advice; first find your groove then use drugs as a way of unlocking creative dimensions which you never thought of before.

there are many different forms of "rave" dancing (i still think tha word rave sounz gay, but have been goin to them since 91), and I have heard my most favorite so far. poppin, lockin, geos, liquid, glides, blah, blah, blah. but having to decide which is easier the ball or liquid, i would have to say the ball is much easier to get away with lookin all sloppy n shit. but liquid takes lots of practice, days of jus watching tv practicin, listening to music practicin, standing in line at the supermarket practicin, well atleast if you want your shit to look clean as a muh fugga. personally, i only use liquid these days for transistions to there moves, like liquid to tutting, liquid to geos, liquid to body tracing, etc, etc. but there are tones of other "rave" style dancing.. not a big fan, but mostly cuz it's too fuckin exhausting for me. to name one would be nordic tracking, now theres a fuggen work out...

but anyways, blah, blah, blah.

whoever was lookin for clipz... check out www.bboy.com www.shaddupanddance.com (if yer lookin for jus liquid, try shaddup first)

im out.... -=pEaCe=-

i just wanted to say if you practis you get better. dont quit

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2001

Shit....i wanna learn hella bad..i seem to have no rythym.....im trying tho....its better then when i started....

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2001

I think when you go to a rave there is really no certain way to dance, i love watching each person's different stye. the main thing to remember is not to worry about what other people are thinking!!! i hate it when people claim they can't dance, all you do is move your body..listen to the music and the beat and have fun! i love to dance.....i don't know what i would do if i couldn't.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2001

I agree that rave dancing has to be more origonal. I can liquid but usually don't anymore. You just need to feel the music, dancing is an expression of what you are feeling. I went to a rave in Seattle and someone told me I was and Awsome pop and flow dancer, which I had never even heard of. There are so many different types of rave dancing!

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2001

I don't think it realy matters how you dance, as long as you enjoy it. I know I look like a goof ball, but that doesn't bother me, i just go crazy

-- Anonymous, December 09, 2001

I would not recommend using any kind of glowing object to dance with. You will be instantly percieved as someone who lacks ability to dance. If you do, that's your perrogative. Let me just say this: glow balls and glow sticks are not dancing. The "scene" you are in is rooted in a culture of people who used the experience to develop, not only spiritually, but mentally. "If you do it, do it good. If you do it good, you can do it better." Dancing is about knowing how to move your body with intelligence, paying attention to detail, and experimenting with ideas inspired by a song. It takes a love for music. It takes discipline. It takes practice. It takes a desire to be better than you are. Or does everybody in this next generation do everything that's easy?

-- Anonymous, December 10, 2001

hey, wha's the dif between the energy ball and liquid neways??

-- Anonymous, December 21, 2001

percieving people as bad dancers because they use glows or lights is ridiculous. i think it looks pretty cool in the right hands, i prefer lights to glows because you can do all sorts of cool shit with them, and you don't have to have them on all the time. i'm not that great a dancer, but i've come a long way in a pretty short time, thanks to all the bad ass dancers i've met who have been kind enough to take a few minuites and give me some pointers. don't confuse posers with kids who are new to the scene, remember when that was you? its all hard at first and whats easy just depends on who you are. i probably still look like an idiot sometimes, but who cares? i found a couple cool videos on morpheus of shit i'm far from being able to do yet, but i'm gonna learn. practice, practice, practice!!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2001

I never liked doing energy ball myself but in the right hands it looks really good. I saw this girl dance once with a an actual glowing ball(plastic) that got bigger and smaller and it was phat. Liquid is good to start with, once your good at it use it to bind styles, like popping and glides and box and moonwalking and breaks and and and... all that good stuff :) I think the posers are the ones who go just to get really high but they feel guilty about it so they try to dance and look like they're having fun. Some people have great dancing potential but are just to shy or terrified to do it in a crowd of hundreds or even a thousand people. Its kinda freaky when every one is looking at you.

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2001

I would rather say that the energy ball is easier. Personally, I prefer to use the figure-eight. I do not appreciate the comment that those who use glowsticks and lights are bad dancers. I think that in the right hands it can do nothing but add to the expression of the music and make for a very cool light show. I know that I have learned by seeing what is innovative and making it my own. I once saw some one do liquid around his neck a couple of times as though trying to tie a noose, and then pulling upward abruptly while simultaneouly cocking his head. I thought that was absolutely brilliant. I adore watching and absorbing what I see. I always practice when I have down time. When I am doing liquid, I pretend my hands are water and that they are tied together, that can help. A dear friend of mine likes to "play" with shapes (like little balls and boxes) and tie and untie knots with his hands. That makes for a great effect. I like to focus on how the music makes me feel. Like if it's more trance, then I do liquid, but with house I like to use the faster pased style, like energy balls. I tend to create moves on the spot... those are fun, and you may make a fool of yourself. Just remember that the scene is about the atmosphere, not the dancing. The dancing just adds to it and expresses it. You should be in your own world with however the music makes you feel. Let the music guide your moves. Be creative, be original, but most of all enjoy yourself. I hope I didn't ramble too much, and I hope what I have to say helps you out.

-- Anonymous, December 26, 2001

I think that liquids are the basis of raving. They are simple but energy balls are just sweet....I like to box instead though... P.L.U.R!!!!!!!!!

Audrey-what u said sums up rave dancing as i know it. but ive never seen a figure 8, what is that. maybe ive seen it but never realized wat it was..thanks

Also check out the Liquid Pop Collective (they are the BEST liquid heads around), they just produced a liquid and digitz instructional vid, check out the trailer at www.digitalitch.com/lpc/ their msg board can be found at http://pub55.ezboard.com/freflectivefrm7?page=1

yeah... alot of heads can bust some basic flow with liquid.. its quite simple to pick up the foundation of the dance... but its another thing when u take it to the next level... ^_^ keep on dancin' ya'll! PLUR and stuph, Houdoken

I just started raveing last year and if you pop,you focus more on dancing than wondering how good you are, or what other people think. Liquid is the bases of raveing, if you do that you can do almost everthing. So go to raves, pop pills, and let the music take you away! have fun!

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2002

I have found that there is no "one" true way to dance. Just go with the music, let it be a part of you, and dont eat a bunch of pills before you go try and do it. Get it down first and feel confident, but most of all feel the energy of the people around you. Once you get all that undercontrol get your ass on the floor and show'em what you've got. You might be suprised. Like in my case I found out I could show'em all up. So just keep it up don't worry how ya look it'll all find it's place,Peace

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2002

n e ways.... ya when i first began i didnt have a clue what i was doing... popped sum pills and danced like a moron, TIP dont pop until u got the basics of ur dancing technic down. another tip... dont ever copy someone else's style... u loose respect and the viewing of others. for beginers just go out onto the dance floor when u hear a good track and just let ur emotions go into ur dancing! n e ways it helps. PLUR *done*

I've been in the music for a little over 10 years now, and I've gotta say that I'm pretty pleased with how far everything in electronic music has come. These new styles of dance are amazing adaptations and expressive forms of creativity. I'm personally a big fan of Liquid, but energy ball looks pretty fat as well. Keep up all this. Hello from way down south! Im from Australia and just happended to come across this site. Reading these replies is gettin me confused, see down here we've never heard of thing like 'liquid' and 'the energy ball'???!!! wot are they? Im from Melbourne, Australia and the rave scene down here is massive, its basically a culture. We take our dancin pretty seriously, we got some awsome talent and probably some very different styles. Our basic style is reffered to as 'the Melbourne Shuffle' sounds corny but looks good. I'd be real interested in gettin some info on ur dance styles and hopefully sharing some on ours. So if any of u guys wanna contact me u can get me on jordi_b_@hotmail.com

My advice? Snuffle up some Ketamine, get on the dance floor, and find yourself turning into a funktastic, liquid flowing gyroscopic dance machine. You are your own kinetic sculpture. Don't bite moves, do what you feel and you'll look much better than you will if you ape the form of another without the substance and feeling that moved them in the first place.

Peace.

(Oh, and the ketamine/any drug is not necessary, but it sure can help you learn)

Their is no set anwser about which is easier. I have been studying kung fu and kempo karate for 20 years now and I just started partying on Dec 20 01. The first time I started dancing my best friend who had been partying for years said I was a natural because I already had so many different movements flowing out of me. For 2 weeks after that first night i danced for hours everyday by myself just doing my workout but to the music and managed to put everything into a fluid dance which is like kung fu but i can also do more of a ridgid kind of dance for house music which is similar to shodagan karate. The whole point i am trying to make is that the music controls the way your body flows and all you need to know is the different movements you are capable of and it should just come out of you without abusing drugs. Although some people have no rhythm and are hopeless dancers, for them I think they should try E and if they still can't dance just sit down all night and become more social. All that matters is that you are having a good time.

-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002

I have been in the rave scene for several years now and it took me an obscene amount of time to get off of my ass and on to the dance floor (as a matter of fact it took moving to another country). I never danced because I was never any good at other types of dancing. After I started to dance I realized why I always felt like something was lacking when I went to raves...the dancing connect's you to the music and creates something within you. I know I still suck and yes, I still worry about what other people think about my dancing a lot of the time but NO ONE is going to take what the music gives me away from me. What it boils down to is whether or not you have the ball's to continue trying even though you suck. It will get better, trust me.

"Do or do not, there is no try..."

eh yo...foe all ya kats whose sooooo into Liquid...yada yada yada...that's just a buncha balonge. Do what you feel like doin, feel the music...just move dammit...hehehe...but for reals tho...if you go to different places, everywhere, you'll always find people who break, pop, liquid, etc...but that doesn't catch my attention as much as people who do sorta a freestyle pop...this past christmas when i went to oakenfold's party in LA (which was tight), i saw a bunch of dancers that were tearing up the dance floors doing shit i've never seen before. I'm from the east koast and You know we be doin our own styles too, but when i went out there and represented with some of my shit...they never seen anything like it there too...so all in all...you basically got your basics<---liquid, pop, yada yada, but if you can dance and be creative with poses, transistions and just be an entertainer when you dance, you'll get people turning heads one day. Just do what you feel and work on it.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2002

what is this- saturday night fever? just do what you feel. do something different. you look like a jerk if you dance like everyone else anyway. take some acid, lose your inhibitions, forget about looking cool and let the music move you. create. innovate. rotate.

-- Anonymous, April 24, 2002

goto style2ouf.com for hot moves

-- Anonymous, May 07, 2002

Hey people . . . all the dance styles are fine. I agree with another fellow raver who stated that just aping another's dance moves looks and probably feels unnatural.

Having said that, however, I had to start somewhere when I was new to the scene so I naturally observed people and temporarily copied their moves. From there I developed my own style . . . but you need to observe others and practice. I think I started with Nordic Track and have since moved on to include other moves. I would never advocate using drugs . . . but personally, a couple of beans sure loosened me up to just flow and express myself.

I'd love to do boxes . . . anyways, I can dream.

Anyways, dance and party safe.

Peace,

Phat Johnson

i've been in the scene for 4 and a half years, and the way i learned how to dance was by simply watching others and adding my own style. i am an ex-dancer (as in dance classes/performances...not table dancing) and an ex-cheerleader, so i'd incorporate my skills from those into my dance moves. everyone has their own style. and let me tell you... IT TAKE TIME! i'm still learning, every weekend. that's whats so fun! mad props for testin the scene. be safe, and don't let the drugs be too much of a factor! P*L*U*R

Dancing lets us feel like little kids again in a sense. If you watch a little one dance, he/she is moving because they feel the music. You can see it. and you will smile. They move to the music with no inhibitions, because they no none. Try it. With no inhibitions. I have been obsessed with dancing since my first party about 5 years ago. I did not dance for a long time. Alot of inhibitions...Dropped them and now i can drop shit. anywhere. but a healthy vibe and a happy crowd helps. Once you get to the point when you can wreck shit on the floor sober> you know youve came into your own. Just go out and leave your heart on the floor. My style has mutated from nordic track and the old hat dancing to a smooth liquidy raving. and i love it and have a passion for it more then anything i have besides family and friends. Drop into your own world and dance like no one is watching you. Peace and smiles from ohigho. sven. house music.

I have no fucking clue wha energy ball is. I downloaded this video online of a raver and it looked like liquid but im not sure. the video was titled liquid poping. Anyone know what its called. I thik he was energy balling but then he was dooing this wave shit with his arms hands and legs at the same time. DAMN that stuff was sick.

-- Anonymous, July 09, 2002

Is there anything called "liquid poping". this vid i downloaded was titled taht. he was doin this wave/energy ball thing with his hands and arms, and this wave thing with his legs?

Raving to some people is for fun and for others its a practice to me its an astral projection :) so i think if u can let go of ur mind and stop thinkin listen to the melody and BASS concentrate on the BASS trust me it isnt just sound waves its a way of comunicating achieve that kind of comunication ur body will be totally out of ur posession and liquid dancing just overtakes ur body eliminating ur bones i like to combine liquid with martial arts dont ask lol girls just have something to it i almost got kidnapped PLUR all

DEar John.. i have a question for you.. do you know which one you can grasp> which one is more of your amusement.. what becomes your focus and seeks you into your reality.. I love to say, in my times of dancing i use alot of steps and breaks.. i believe in drumnbass is the best source for me.. that keeps me going.. Love to dance is the motive one must have while dancing out on the floors.. the more you feel the music the less you think about how you dance and the more you dance.. it runs free within your sprirts.. the less you worry of others.. and if people look at you alot you know your making some ill moves the most important part is to have fun:) alot of people make that mistake in the rave scences, hope you will continue to do what you want and not to let others bother you.. tips are always helpful talk to your fellow ravers.. and see there images of a party. peace - Sally

p.l.u.r. xD

-- Anonymous, July 30, 2002

One style of dancing is going to difficult for one person, but a breeze to another. I learned how to do liquid not from watching others, but by listening to and feeling the music, and letting that energy flow. That's all "rave" dancing is; self expression to the energy within.

Peace

What's up people?

How are we all? I'm from Australia and I am a Club Dancer. I don't take clothes off, I just get paid to dance to trance/techno/dance. I guess I should be called a Rave Dancer. Anyway, I know England employs dancers (the type that don't take clothes off) but I heard from other collegues that America doesn't (or if they do, they are RARE). Can someone out there correct me on this?

I don't use glow sticks or stuff like that. If you like to use it, good for you. I don't like to put people down for their style because as a CD (Club Dancer), people can talk a lot of s*** behind your back (especially the chicks to other chicks. Chicks like male CD's :D ).

My Style? I mix some faced paced techno, dance with some Gangsta HipHop for style.

I think people are too critical on people biting moves. It's the BEST way to get started and also to find out what your good at and like. You gotta start somewhere, and no 2 moves will ever look the same. But at the same time, one should try to be innovative. It really ticks me off when I battle someone and the first move they pull off is something I KNOW they stole from me. (GRRR). I guess they made it obvious they were trying to get credit for it (seeing as though it's more like a mini routine then a single move).

As for 'E' and Pills? ain't no one get good thanx to a happy pill. They think they good, but anyone that goes pro (and I assume most people wanna get somewhere in between) leave the drugs. Serious. If you dont care what you look like and you must have it, fine. But don't anyone here try to tell me drugs and alcohol gets you any good BECAUSE YOU LOOK CRAPPY!!!!

And as for motivation? I'm gonna be honest. The only reason I wanted to get good is to waste my snobby friends on the dance floor with some mad moves and 2ndly... to impress chicks.

Keep practicing yo!

Rave dancing - what the f**k is that !? I hate to be cynical/patronising but....when I started raving here in England in 1988, aged 21, the whole experience was about going out, getting 'on one' and just enjoying yourself. There were no dance moves, no dress code, no attitude or vibe - everyone was there for a good time with good music, admittedly the, then new drug, ecstasy obviously helped no end.Anyway enough nostalgia - I'm now a 35 year-old, home-owner with kids and a job etc.I still rave but prefer as,I always did, the free party scene than clubs, big legal parties etc simply because they are the closest thing to the 'raves' of old. Many things have changed some for the better, some for the worse - the drugs aren't as good yet people seem better educated regarding them. The 1st pill I took cost £20 and it was worth it - now they cost £4/5 and aren't. What I want to say is that people getting into it now are as probably as 'into it' as I was all those years ago which is great but where did dance moves and dress codes come from ? What made all the ravers unique was that we were altogether doing the same thing but individually - don't lose sight of that and keep on raving !

-- Anonymous, September 30, 2002

I'm sure there's alot more ways to dancing than just those listed above. Most of the moves I make up and mold into my style is more of a tai-chi kinda thing. I let the music I'm dancing to go into a human form in my head and I mimic it from there. It works pretty well, seeing how nobody else has an Idea what I'm doing. Some of the moves I do I've seen from incredibly good ravers like the notorious 'Eric' I picture myself in slow motion, It helps make my wave more fluent.

i've never even used the term "liquid" or "energy ball"- guess i'm a poser. i grew up training to be a pro ballet dancer and when i went to my first party i thought i was in heaven! 6 years later i'm still looking for any excuse to dance. i don't have a name for my style, and i'm not trying to compete, and i definitely don't crack on people who do, or don't, "rave dance" (whatever that means). the ballet world is full of bitchy, catty snobs whose only goal is to be better than you, not to mention the pressure to be the skinniest. i love parties because i don't feel stress or pressure to be anything but myself. if you start assigning titles and having contests and making fun of kids who aren't like you, then it's not a rave anymore, it's high school revisited. i shouldn't have to remind you, high school sucked big time. so HAVE FUN & STOP HATIN!

It doesn't matter what is easier to learn. It's whats most comfortable to do. I'm still learning to put my moves together and have it look half way decent.I picked up most of my moves from my boyfrend's sister (who loves the ball) but I also DLed a few vids and just popped in a cd and flowed. Get into the music and just run with it. Don't think about were your hands are going just know that your moving. The whole drugs make you better idea, I've met people who won't even think of taking drugs and their moves are awesome. If anyone wants to talk to me, my IM names are Chaos Renegade and PureChaosForever.

"SCHOOL IS IN SESSION"

OK FIRST THINGS FIRST "RAVING" IS WHAT IGNORANT PEOPLE CALL LIQUID AND FUNK STYLES (POPPING AND LOCKING). BOXING IS THE "RAVER" WORD FOR TUTTING, THE PROPER TERM IS TUTTING OR KING TUT STYLE. ENERGY BALL ISNT A STYLE ITS A MOVE SOMEONE MADE UP, BUT IT ISNT A STYLE. BREAKING OR BREAKDANCE IS WHAT IGNORANT PEOPLE CALL BBOYIN. WAVING, TUTTING, POPPING, HITTING, BOPPING, BOTTIN, FILMORE, BOOGALOO, TICKING, STROBING, ANIMATION, SACCIN, SHAMROCK, ETC, ARE STYLES OF POPPING. BBOYING AND POPPING HAVE VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER, AND HAVE COMPLETELY DIF HISTORIES. POPPING, AND LOCKING CAME FROM THE WEST COAST WHILE BBOYIN CAME FROM THE EAST COAST. ITS COOL THAT YOU ARE ALL TAKING AN INTEREST IN THESE DANCE STYLES, BUT TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, BECAUSE YOU ARE GIVING PEOPLE THE WRONG INFORMATION ABOUT THESE STYLES AND DOING MORE DAMAGE TO THAN GOOD. AND INCASE YOU DIDNT UNDERSTAND, THESE STYLES OF DANCE (EXCEPT LIQUID) HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RAVING AND HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE THE LATE 60'S EARLY 70' WAY BEFORE ANYONE EVER THOUGHT OF RAVING OR EVEN HIP HOP SO DONT GET URBAN DANCE STYLES MIXED UP WITH HIP HOP, HIP HOP HAS INCORPORATED THESE DANCE STYLES AND THEY ARE CONSIDERED AN ELEMENT OF HIP HOP TODAT, BUT ARE MUCH OLDER. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS LIQUIDPOP, THATS LIKE SAYING "BALLET LINE DANCING",THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS POPLOCKIN THATS ALSO LIKE SAYING "TAP DANCING POPPING".DON CAMPBELL INVENTED LOCKING. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT LIQUID VISIT THE "LIQUID POP COLLECTIVE" WEBSITE AT REFLECTIVE.NET THEY INVENTED THAT DANCE STYLE. YOU CAN POP TO JUST ABOUT ANY MUSIC,BUT IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE DANCED TO FUNK, IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT POPPING GO TO THE MR.WIGGLES WEB SITE(HE IS A MEMBER OF THE "ELECTRIC BOOGALOO'S BOOGALOO SAM INVENTED POPPING AND BOOGALOO STYLE,HE IS POPPIN PETES BROTHER,POPPIN PETE IS ALSO A MEMBER AND THE FOUNDER OF THE ELECTRIC BOOGALOOS)WWW.MRWIGGLESONLINE.COM GO TO THE FORUM ON ANY OF THESE SITES AND READ THE DANCE SECTION FOR NEWBIES.

PEACE, THESE STYLES ARE VERY DIFFERENT IN HISTORY, ORIGIN, THE MUSIC THAT THEY ARE DANCED TOO, ETC, PLEASE RESPECT THEM AS SUCH.

Hey...ok, there is all of this talk about energy ball and liquid. I've been dancing seriously for about 2 years now at raves and in clubs throughtout...well the world. Particulrly in the US and all over the Europe scene like crazy. So...i come to this message board and i read all of this stuff about styles and everything. And right now im feeling like ihave totally missed something...i dont even have the slightest clue as to whatthey are. I mean i know i must have seen them but i dont know if i doo them or not. I know this might sound strange and i dont mean to bragg but i'm an amazing dancer. Ive won competitions in both Montreal, Canada and Prague, Czech Republic and as soon as i start dancing anywhere...i mean anywhere, people just stop and look at me like "holly shit", then give me a stream of compliments. One guy even thought i was member of the []Drodigy. The thing thati dont get is how can i be so bloody good but not even know the jargon for what i'm doing? I move my feet like crazy, do a lot of kicking and stuff, my arms go totally wild and i seem to have awsome balance when i dance on one foot. Plus i do like this..."challenge" dance with my gf...like kung fu almost but it certainly grabs peoples attention and shocks them. Hmm...oh...now i wish you all could see me dance then at least one of you outthere can tell me what the hell im doing. I guess its anything but textbook though. PLUR (yeah...i know what that means;) Raas;)

WHEN YOU DREAM THER ARE NO RULE,PEOPLE CAN FLY,ANY THING CAN HAPPEN. SOME TIMES THER IS A MOMENT,AS YOU WAKEING,AND YOU BECOME AWARE OF THE REAL WORLD AROUND YOU.BUT YOU STILL DREAMING.YOU MAY THINK YOU COULD FLY.BECAUSE YOU GONNA TRY...........!

Ok Boyz and Girlz, Energy and Liquid are pussy shit, get off the extacy and start breakin, this shows true talent, not some encahanting theatrical display of feel good dancing, yall act like your part of this deep sedistic culture where your mind and soul escape from inside and travel through your fingertips and toes, Back the fuck up and stop smoking that crack. Oh wait, what am I saying, just sniff some K and youll turn into a funktastic dancing machine!!! Fuck that, get real, get sober!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2003

I been ravin a year now every weekend and to me it's one of the best ways to express my self. When I dance I dont worry about what I or everyone else looks, I'm there wit my friends havin the time of my life listnin to some of the best tunes around, Melbourne fukin Kranks! Dont get caught up in all this liquid, nrg ball bull shit cos it aint about that just do what feels good if you do what feels good enough! (practice practice practice) you will master it and have your own style and you get more respect for doing your own thing because you're expesin ya self the best you can. It's an art form. Music is the canvas, the body is the brush.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2003

What a cool discussion going on. I felt compelled to respond because a friend of mine is always eager to learn how to dance "better" but when he's on the dancefloor, he's always the happiest looking guy in the joint, despite not having the phattest moves. With that in mind, here's my two Yen:

I think the real issue here is people go to these parties and they feel awkward. Not only are they new to the scene and the music makes them want to move their bodies in cool new ways, but they are likely surrounded by many, many good dancers who have been at it longer. There's also that universal desire of wanting to fit in... anyway, i'm kind of surprised that someone is actively wanting to learn "how to dance at a rave".

I don't know everything there is about drugs. What I do know is that it REALLY helps you to loosen up and not feel self-conscious. The rest is really up to you...

If you want to become an awesome dancer who wants to attract crowds of onlookers, obviously you will have to practice like crazy. Otherwise, just feel the music, pretend you're dancing by yourself at home and don't give a damn what other people think. Trust me, you could be the worst dancer and no one will laugh at you. Everyone will be too bloody happy to notice!

Anyway, you will soon discover that you have a wackload of funky moves in your once-hidden repetoire... and if they don't fit into any predetermined dance "disciplines", well, does that really matter?

peace

-- Anonymous, February 02, 2003

in response to the last message.... the only reason that you could be the worst dancer in the world an no one will laugh is cuz everone is high off their asses and cant tell retards from moving lights.... yep....dont get high, look at the poeple that do and laugh..haha

Hey people =)

Well, I'm Samantha from Sydney, Australia. Our dance styles here seem to be alot different from yours. I've seen liquid before, no idea what popping and locking is! Here in Australia we're into the Melbourne shuffle. I don't know about Americans, but all throughout Europe dancing is all focused on the upper body, here in Australia it's all about your feet and the way you move to the music You really have to get it right otherwise it just looks out of whack. You gotta flow. The Melbourne Shuffle originated in Melb, obviously LOL. The name sounds really pathetic and sounds like some sort of Country Line dancing crap, but seriously... it looks totally amazing and trippy when you know how to pull it off n move. It consists of swivelling on your feet, stomping, sliding, 360 turns... but anyway. I do have a video here that you can check out...

http://www.xes.cx/mp3.htm

When you get to the site, click on Melbourne Shuffle. If you wanna talk about it, or just wanna get in contact with me for the hell of it then go ahead.

Take care, Sam.

I personally like taking it in the ass. That is the coolest by far. When your high on "E", the flashing lights, and loud speakers, Getting a glowstick in da butt is the coolest way to dance. I like sticking the stupid glass binky in my ass then letting people suck on it. Candy neclaces are sooooo way cool, One time I used it on my ex-girlfriend Kea as anal beads. I can do this dance that I made up with 4 different colored glowsticks in my ass at the same time. Me = Trend Setter. Everyone that raves should be gay. I am now creating a new dance that involves flexing my bowels in and out.

-- Anonymous, June 25, 2003

ive been goin to parties for years and have my own style of dancing which includes a bit of everything...as for the question at hand...who is to say which is easier.i love both. as for the scene... calm down, take it easy and be yourself. be safe and be thoughtfull. happy raving my children

here is a site that tells about raves in toronto www.hullabaloo-raves.com also check out www.happyhourradio.com it has a live djset every wednesday night....awesome sites check em out ;D

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2003

I actually perfere to do footwork. It's harder but it looks better when your battling. Oh and I think liquid is easier.

-- Anonymous, October 21, 2003

Its simple time on task.. the more parties you hit the better you become. You see some awesome moves then bite on it (steal someone else move) twist it into your own style.. Thats what makes hip- hop, rave, old school etc. so great.. there are no rules or guide lines to follow.. And its hard to find a place that even teaches it because it can not be governed. Here are some good links if you get lots in at the lights.. ravelinks.com ravemedia.net And the best of the best---- www.electricboogaloos.com

All the real dancer will know what I'm taking about.

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2003

freestyle dancing , i think is the most versitile dancing there is in the electronic music scene. freestylers aka houserz usually dance to house, UK garage, or breakbeats, or whatever makes you groove. Freestyle dancers are trained and practice religously. Most of them can bust liquid, energy balls, poppin' lockin', tutting, breakdancin', street jazz, african, and latin dancing. Freestylers never choreograph shit. It all comes from the top of there heads, but with skill and talent mixed with feeling. most houserz are underground and the best housers (from my knowledge are from the bay area in california, peeps in new york city, and houserz in chicago.) Believe it or not they have them in canada too.

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2003

OKay....the TRUTH....NO one style can make it on its own!!.... really think about it...how much liquid could you drop before your repeating yourself???no one style is the best. And copyin moves is a good way to get the fundamentals of a style. I dont really know what the rave scene is like around the world. But out here on the west coast (Vancouver Canda) we gots tons of styles and combinations... ill list a few for u curious newbies and those around the world wo are unfamilliar. allryte the most basic technique Liquid (its true it is basic). Energy ball (i havent seen this technique in like for ever because it is soooooo old school) its easy to learn but its hard to make look good. Now on to more advanced stuff.... Poppin , this technique requires fluidic jerking movements the best way to understand this would be to download a video clip from Kazaa by one Mr.Wiggles (he is probably the most famous party dancer in North America) and my friend danced ontour wit himcheck it out! now on to a neat technique called Locking this involves lots of talent and *shooting* your arms and legs( not soo much legs)believe me when i say this technique is very hard! you might end up looking stupid. There is also a technique called tut style (or tutting) it looks kinda like egyptian pharoe meets popping its very cool. next ill tell yall bout some combination styles ( or hybrid styles) these are more advanced. first Liquid popping, a very insane style looks unbieliveable and impossible but its not that hard to learn. next... probably the most trippy style i can think of POP-LOCKING a mic of popping and locking...this one is hard to xplain but i have video clips just put me on your msn and i can send u some clips. NOW im gonna xplain something to the curious noObie FOOT WORK IS MORE IMPORTANT (slides glides and floating) than body werk... i say this because usually your body moves in relevance to your feet. once u get the foot work down the body and hand movement comes more naturally... the more u move , the lower u get the funkier you are ... try to throw some moves in to your style that take you lower to the ground. If you say u cant dance u cant .... trust me anyone can can...u gotta relax and feel the music and free your mind... AND DONT POP TOO MUCH... hey n e of you ever scene a GEOBALL at a rave???? Dont be afraid to bite a move ... thats how everyone learns... once you learn create some new moves it will come naturally ... hey if you see a style called "Tha Flow" moy boi's ivented it!!! Paycee (peace) and goodLuck hit me up for clips or tips

-- Anonymous, December 25, 2003

hi...im went to my first rave last sat...what is the nordic track, and how do you do it? Thanks

-- Anonymous, January 05, 2004

hi everyone!!! just wanna say that the melbourne shuffle rocks...thing is, as much as i try i cant really get it..unless the dance floor is made of ice!!! any suggestions?

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2004

Try watching youself dance in front of a mirror, even better video tape youself. Different angles will give you a better out look on your dancing plus you can see the rough corner to smooth out. But most important have fun, remeber its dancing, not a drill team. In responese to the "nortic track" It a modified verison of the early 90's running man, more of a candy skipping dance.

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2004

Man don''t even think about that question man. it is what u want to do and how u do it. Most people don't care if u r a liquider or a energy ball boy. It is weather u have a good time doing it or not. Now i am into the strings. (for anyone who doesn't know what i mean, it is where the glowstick are attached to a string.) But ya anyways just having fun in what your doing, try not to nail yourself in the balls and go for it and HHHHAAAAVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE FFFFFFUUUUUUUNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

P.S. Don't be afriad to ask how to do somthing that u can't figure out people won't bit. (well i don't.)

Hey all!wasup?Well im a 20 year old girl from Egypt and ive only recently started listening to trance music, and as i was surfin da net, i came across this page.Anyway i just wanted 2 y'all something.Im very very self conscious and one thing thats stopping me from going to raves is the fact that i cant dance to this kinda music,so waht u reckon i should do?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2004

yoooo... i need some new movez... 'rolling' party coming up soon... and i need beeh tripping them out ahha.. what are some movez that i can are good to use in a strobe light... and what sitez can teach me then

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2004

Gota love the strings, been doing it for years now seen some strange stuff but we all have our own niche. all I have to say is have fun do what the music wants you to do. And don't worry about others, anyways the one's that make fun of people are the ones not dancing!

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2004

hey this string is like two and a half years old. i wonder if anyone who ever posted ever looked at this site again... anyway, i like my style of popping with a lot more footwork than normal, but i really love to put some smooth like cheesy disco moves in there, or some character walks, and like abstract them a little so they're noticeable but not lame... you know. cool. later.

-- Anonymous, March 28, 2004

make that 3

-- Anonymous, April 09, 2004

hey wassup peeps...

this is my first post here and i just wanted to add my 2 cents about liquid, pop and the rest of the shit that comes with being fcuked off ur titties @ a rave and dancing ur ass off...

firstly i dont think thats its stupid to be dancing with rave lights and glowsticks...wat i do think is stupid i putting em on strings...fine i looks nice and pretty wen ur taking pix and shit, but it just aint feasible @ a rave, u might poke sum bastards eyes out by accident....light raving or raving Jedi's as i call em are sum of the illest dancers...and none of this twirling shit, i mean full freestyle expression in time with the music, im a hard trance, hard house and breaks head and ive been raving with lights for hella long...

im from sydney and we rave like muthafcukas down here...i give real props to those who play with lights...we got a dance down here that we call a melbourne shuffle and thats a ill way to kick it @ a rave...but i like to mix my popping, glides and waves with my lights...to sum it might sound stupid, but fark, after droppin a few pills...ur outta control...

o just one thing...there is no such thing as liquid popping...its popping or in sum circles pop-locking...another hot tip...if u tut...make sure ur real sick at it, other wise ur walkin the egyptian like a sad muthafcuka...

payce!!!

-- Anonymous, August 18, 2004

well i think that i dont know really how to rave. every one says im good. and like i challenge people adn they are good and so am i so it becomes a tie. i think i liguid or something. i dont know. id like to learn like a step by step boxing teq. that sound bad but i think i got the hang of it but i dont know. i have seen some pritty good ravers. and have been in to the music for 5 years or so. plur gavin

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2004

Liquid needs flexibility. Energy ball is easier because its just twising your arms into an eight

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2004

I would have to say that doing the bus driver dance is the best. Its like this: you pretend that you are moving a huge driving wheel around in circles, then you pretend that you are opening the door for the little kiddies to come on in (i even give it a wave mouthing "come on in") and then you shut the door and continue moving the wheel. Try that little one out. If you have any other ideas email me. If not check ya at the next minneapolis rave!

-- Anonymous, October 21, 2004

iv jst started the whole dancin scene and i no im not dat gud at it!!! but i dnt mind ; i love trance music and i just move to it. if ur bothered bout how u look u shudnt b there......JUST GO WITH THE FLOW & enjoy the journey!

-- Anonymous, February 22, 2005

liquid is great conncept but as for raving to any sort of rules or dance steps, fuck that. if you want to be a propper raver go to any of the event sites that concern your part of the world in my case it was Helter Skelter in england and go I traveld 200 mile to get their with one mate of mine. dont be tepted to imatate just turn up and listen "let the music take you to the highest high common rase your hands up you can touch the sky" as seduction put it if you dont feel up for it on the day then get some chemicals if youre inclind to but most importantly let the music become you, it wont take you long to understand what I mean.

-- Anonymous, February 28, 2005

If you really want to become an exceptional raver learn transfers and pauses....like changing your grip on the glowsticks as smoothly as possible. Grip changes look cool and break up the monotony of one style. A pause, like throwing up the glowstick, catching it on the back of your palm, tossing it back up, and catching it smoothly transfered into another style is pretty tight. You know...after reading all the comments (since 2001!) on this sight, I can't believe how many people out there think as deeply about raving as I do. There is seriously some good advice in this forum. Oh, and to answer your question, don't worry about liquid, the ball, or the box...just flow. By the way....anyone going to Ultra Music Festival 2005 (www.ultramusicfestival.us)!!!

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2005

hey people,,,i'm guessing your all american WHAT THE HELL are you on about,,,i think you americans are missing the whole point to trance/dance music,,and going to raves,,it's something americans copied from europe,,but got the wrong idea,,there are no moves, special types of dancing or anything like that,,when you go to a rave you lose your self in the music,,moving to it in a state of euphoria,,you can go dancing on for hours and hours, until your body is covered in sweat and is acheing ,but u don't notice, you don't care what your doing ,what other people are doing,,don't care about looking good dancing ,,or how other people look,,cus you don't care, and they don't care,,they are not concerned,,its almost like they are all in a trance ,hence thats why it's called trance music, you could be in a room with thousands of people,,,dancing with your girl/guy,,and just barely notice that they are there(ur girl/guy included),,cus it's almost like ur on drugs...it's hard to explain,,u just have to experience it,,,oh my god i see people here are doing things like learning moves with glow sticks and stuff,,,having glow sticks and stuff like that is just supposed to a bit of fun....thats not what trance/dance music is about,,not what raves are about,,,anyway just trying to help,,if you don't get it,,people will quickly lose interest,,,dance went and left asia pretty quickly,,,been in europe for ages,,and is only getting better and better.........also probably won't see this page again,,so if u wanna say something to me,,post it up, and email it to me
