eos-300 with ef 28-80 or tamron 28-200 ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am about to purchase an eos -300 camera & need your advice :

1-my major concern: Is it better to get the eos300 body with a 28-200 tamron lens or with a standard ef 28-80 lens offerd by the company ? the tamron lens apears more usefull & satisfing to me with it's powerfull macro & reasonable price .

2-Is there a significant difference between the quality of the pics taken by these 2 lenses ?

3-about th AF abilty : As I searched the web for more inf. about the AF ability I came to know that the AF point which is mentioned about this camera is not actuly a point(small area) .It is an area which is not suitable for very delicate & selective focusing.

thanks ...armin

How about the Canon EF 28-105 USM? Better optics, better build quality, and faster/quieter focusing than the options listed above.

Check here for features of EOS 300: http://www.photozone.de/

It has 7 small area focus points, selected either automatically by the camera, or manually by you.

"1 ...Is it better to get the eos300 body with a 28-200 tamron lens or with a standard ef 28-80 lens offerd by the company ?"

Just say, "No" to both.

"2-Is there a significant difference between the quality of the pics taken by these 2 lenses ?"

No, but if you are really concerned about image quality, don't buy either. Both will give acceptable images, but neither is very sharp wide open, and the 28-200 is quite soft at the long end. The Tamron is more usefull for nearly three times the price, but wide ranging zooms make too many compromises. Canon makes a few reasonably priced lenses that are much better than these two; 24-85 USM, 28-105 USM and 28-135 USM IS. If you really need one lens to go from 28-200 the new Tamron is probably the best of the lot.

I don't know where you got this idea. The AF ability of the 300 is quite good, probably better than any camera in it's class.
