The federal government suspended printing millions of tax-rebate checks at one of eight sites after six taxpayers received two checks apiece.

Treasury officials said Thursday that they have traced the problem to a Defense Department check-writing facility in Columbus, Ohio, but don't know whether more duplicates were issued among 8 million checks mailed a week ago.
