Star Trek team to boldly make 10th film

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Director Stuart Baird has signed on to shoot the 10th instalment of the "Star Trek" feature franchise.

The picture, as yet untitled, will reteam "Star Trek" cast members Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner, who will reprise their roles as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard and Lt. Commander Data, respectively.

It has been written by John Logan and "Trek" veteran Rick Berman will produce the film for Paramount Pictures. The film has yet to receive a green light.

Baird most recently worked with Paramount on "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," as executive producer alongside Jeremy Smith.

The "Star Trek" feature franchise, which bowed in 1979 with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," is one of the most successful in entertainment history, having grossed more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide and more than $5 billion from ancillaries such as merchandising and home video.

The last "Star Trek" feature, "Star Trek: Insurrection," directed by and co-starring Jonathan Frakes, was released in December 1998.

Let's see...every other ST movie is good, and I don't remember Insurrection, so that means the next one should be good.
