Denny, Denny, Denny, Give me a break

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Purple : One Thread

I just read a Q&A with Denny Green where he states that Tate and Wright will be the starters because they have done such a good job for the Vikes in the past.

Okay, I'm only going to say this once. Back away from the bad gravy.

Tate and Wright have done nothing of the sort. They suck. Tate had a few good isolated plays a few years ago and Wright once made a tackle or two that impressed me. Other then that they have been MFMS. What's that mean you ask? It means that every time I see an opponent catching a pass they are Missing From My Screen. Oh well, I guess the old adage holds true again. "Never let a fat guy who plays the drums and forces abortions on his girlfriends run an NFL franchise." I forget who said that but they were very wise in their foresight.

Agree, same old Denny but what did you expect? We must find a CB before the season preferably before so he can actually learn the system. C'MON Denny get your head out of you FAT a$$ you don't actually believe people are buying this $hit do ya???? GO VIKES!!!

What do you guys expect Denny to say, that they suck and distroy what little confidence they might have. These guys are still Vikings and Denny has to stay positive wtih them

Maybe that is exactly what he needs to do to light a fire under some comfortable asses. Could we be any worse off? Maybe if he said our CB situation is dire and that we need to find someone who can come in and make plays, these guys would prove him wrong. I think his tolerance for poor play by our corners over the years has been his great achilles heel. And yes I know he has run guys out and cut guys but until this year he has failed to deal with the root of the problem.

This is referred to as Greenspeak. It's an ongoing problem with both Green and Red. Either they are incredibly stupid or think the fans are.

Here's some Greenspeak from yesterday's Pioneer Press along with my responses:

Summer of discontent?

BY SEAN JENSEN

Pioneer Press

(snip)

"One thing I don't do is just focus on ourselves, because we don't play ourselves," Green said. "Everybody has lost players.<<

Not every team ends up with a net result of lost players. For every player lost by one team, there is a gain by another team.

In addition, the Vikes probably lost more starters than any team in the NFL this offseason.

>>"That's the success of our program," Green said. "You have to make judgments on who you can afford to lose, who you can't afford to lose.We didn't want to lose Todd Steussie or Johnny Randle. They took other deals, and that's their choice. But in the same sense, the guys who replace them have to look at it as an opportunity." <<

Randle and Steussie were not free agents. They didn't simply go out and take other deals. Green cut them and they they signed on with other teams.

And don't forget that Denny is the same guy who used that mysterious "new policy" that forbids negotiating contracts prior to their final year as the reason why the Vikes couldn't live up to the promise made to Randall McDaniel. However, the Vikes have violated and attempted to violate their own policy numerous times, including Denny's own recent extension.

Red? Back in March he announced a postponement in the Moss negotiations. His reason? Lack of cap space. As I pointed out at the time, and was revealed to be true yesterday, Moss' 2001 cap hit will actually DECREASE after signing the new contract.

Back in '98, Red declared that he wouldn't discuss an extension with Denny until after the season. A few weeks later, Denny signed an extension.

Then he said Brad Johnson would not be traded. A few weeks later he was traded.

Then he said he wasn't going to hire a GM. A few weeks later he hired Tim Connolly as GM.

Unfortunately, we have two liars running the Vikes.

I read an article today by Reusse in one of the Minny papers where he got in a few jabs at both Red and Green.

I was also wondering, and maybe one of you capologist types could answer it. What was the point of cutting Randle, Steussie, McDaniel et al? I mean we are still taking cap hits against them. Do the Vikings not have to pay the balance on the contracts, in other words did they take the cap hit to avoid paying actual dollars? Or did they cut them to avoid paying bonus money (But still on the hook for the actual contract $$), in essence saving real money but the cap be damned? Or was it simply that Green couldn't deal with players who refused to march lockstep to his dogma?

Yes, we took cap hits for cutting players such as Randle, Steussie and McDaniel, primarily in the first year after they left. While this results in a ton of dead money this year, the Vikes' cap situation should be much better next year.

What do the three above players have in common? They all crossed Denny in one way or another. Denny reneged on the promise made to McDaniel, leading to a hold-out and pubic statements, Randle refused to renegotiate his conbtract for Denny, while Steussie ripped Moss following the loss to the Giants.

This kind of thing has been happening since the entire Vikes' secondary walked into Denny's office back in '93 complaining about Solly. A year later, all of these players w
