Read the most important Supreme Court decision of the last decade

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

George W. Bush became President of the United States as a direct result of this 5-4 decision:

Per curiam opinion in Bush v. Gore

Last year, if you took the time to understand the issues in the campaign and then to cast a vote, but you have not yet taken the time to read the opinions, then it is high time you knew how the justices justified their decision to the world. It is an amazing document. Well worth reading.

Sorry. I left off the "http://" and it blew up the link.

When you are done wallowing through this document maze, about March of next year, go to this site: www.whitehouse.gov

Same guy will be running the show.

Is Al Gore still alive?

Telinet: ...wallowing through this document maze, about March of next year...

Go to the bottom of the page I linked to. Near the bottom there is a header: Opinions. Under that header are two links. The second link is:

Per curiam opinion in Bush v. Gore; Rehnquist, C. J., concurring; Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg, and Breyer, JJ., dissenting

Click that link. It downloads a 65 page PDF document. That document contains the majority opinion of the five justices and the several dissenting opinions. That's all you need to read.

If it takes you more than 7 months to read 65 pages, then I can see why you would be reluctant. Most of us could manage that task in a couple of hours. Considering how many hours most of us spent listening to spin doctors and talking heads on television last November, a couple of hours would be a trifling investment.

65 Pages? You read it Nip, I'd rather look at short skirts. Am I making you nervous?

Noooooo

it's...www.whitehouse.com

I'm still checkin gravestones in Cook county that predate 1941. When the list is ready there'll be proof that Nixon took Illinois in '62.

Book to follow.

Make that '39 & '60. That's good. A bunch more graves to check out. Gotta go now as while this task was pretty tiresome with bad dates and all there's just so much history we have to put straight. This stuff is important. Right?

My mistake Cin. Now there’s a group that really keeps us up and running. 8^)

U guys checkin out the Cook county returns too? Wouldn't have guessed.
