Canon camera comparison A2 and Rebel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

If you take an A2 and a Rebel body and use the same lense on each one and took the same "manual" photo (ie. t60 f11) AND used the same kind of film; will you get the same photo as far as quality ????? What I'm trying to ask is if you manually use an AOS body, does it make a difference what body you use. Please take into mind it's for a single shot, I know some of them take faster FPS.

Thanks, Rod

Indeed, the camera is a light-tight box that you put the lens on. Assuming no defects, the pictures should be the same.

There could be some differences if one body held the film flatter than the other for example, and you might be able to get different shutter speeds on different bodies, but in general the pictures should be the same.

Yes, that is true, but what light meter did you use?

Nonetheless, yeah, they should be the same.

Actually, the photos from the A2 will be of slightly better quality because of the 200 dollar difference in the prices of these two cameras.

You don't use a Rebel, because EOS lenses don't have aperature rings your fingers get sore fumbling with buttons. Rebels aren't good cameras to use if you like manual mode. The original "question" really doesn't look like anything but an attempt to start a flame war.

Their meter patterns are different, so it's quite possible that for some scenes one would meter better that the other. The A2 has a better/smaller spot meter and that could be used as well to improve some images.

Rod's question does not allow for any metering issues. So film, lens, and exposure being equal, I agree with Peter: the A2 photo will be $200 better.

Ffor a single shot, with a fixed manual exposure, with the same film and lens, the images will be identical. It is as simple as that. Since the camera contains no optics, when the shutter is open, and the mirror is out of the way, there is nothing between the subject other than the lens.

It is possible that the image from the A2 will be "better" because it may more accurately time the exposure, and more accurately control the aperture.

So the answer to your question is yes, you will get the same image.
