Looking for childhood memory for my daughter (trivia)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My daughter has been looking for something she had when a child - a small, plastic, orange-colored disc with a straw in the middle (I think!) that you pushed into an orange and then sucked the juice from the orange.

It's been awhile, so I just vaguely remember them, but the kids had such fun with them - could anyone tell me if they're still around, or where I can find one??? Thanks for any help....

Hi Bonnie, We are in process of moving to our new homestead in Virginia (currently in the city in Florida). I am almost sure I have one of these in my junk drawer. I will be weeding that one out over the weekend. If I find it I will email you (if that is not your "real" email then email with the real one) and I will send it off to you - no charge. These use to be a dime a dozen in Florida but, come to think of it, I don't believe I have seen one in years!

you might check the dollar stores in your area sometimes they carry weird and wonderful stuff from times gone by.

Our family went to Hale's Orange Groves in Florida a few years ago and they sold them. I think they sell stuff mail order if you want to track down their address or Phone #--sorry I don't have it. Sharon

I had one. It was really just a tough straw with an angle. we would roll/squeeze the orange to mush the juice and then stick this sharp straw in.

some mail order catalogue of "country" stuff, like the General Store or something (maybe even Cracker Barrel Restaurant) has peppermint sticks with lots of holes. You do the same thing to the orange and stick the pepermint stick in the end, and suck the juice through. quite yummy! I had one at my friend's.

If all else fails, I KNOW where mine is! Thing is, I believe there is another, and I'm not all that sure where the "spare" is. I still use "mine". How old is your daughter? I'll do what I can, but I am not as likely to give up my "orange juice sucker" to an old broad (over 10) as I am for a munchkin. Nonetheless, I will search for the "other one" if you want me to! GL!
