Infdo and pics of AB&A spur line Birmingham AL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I am seeking any photos and info on an AB&A/AB&C spur line that left the main near Blue Creek Junction (Bessemer) Alabama and was built to a mine in/near Pleasant Grove Alabama. The line was pulled up prior to the sixties and my father used to use the roadbed to run and exercise in preparation for a season of football. He was a referee. Will answer all. Thanks in advance. Really would love picts, especially on the trestle that existed over Warrior River Road (now Allison-Bonnett Dr) in Hueytown. W M Miles wmiles@mindspring.com

I believe you are referring to the Mulga branch, which AB&A built to serve the Mulga mine west of Birmingham. My book, "Atlanta, Birmingham & Coast," published last year by the ACL & SAL HS, has a history of this branch as well as the rest of the AB&A/AB&C. (For more details on the book, follow the "New Books" link on our web site's opening page.) Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the branch itself nor of the bridge you mentioned. E mail me off list and I'll provide more information.
