making cider vinegar

Has anyone ever tried making raw cider vinegar by adding a "starter" of raw cider vinegar to a gallon of apple cider? I wondered if this would work. Has anyone tried it?

I use alot of raw cider vinegar and it costs me $10 dollars a gallon. I can get raw cider in the fall for $2 a gal. I priced out buying a mother to make it and it was not any cheaper than buying the cider outright.

you can do that,, as long as the "starter: isnt pastureized. Ive let apple cider sit out,, and it will turn into vinegar on its own
