GB: Tube breakdowns hit record high

Breakdowns on the Tube involving signal, points and track failures reached a record 4,738 last year, London Underground's own figures reveal today.

Cynthia Hay, of Capital Transport, the passenger watchdog for the Tube, said: "The figures demonstrate that the infrastructure is crumbling. It is no good having new trains if they cannot run properly because the signals and track are in such an appalling state."
