I've never seen John Heitinga play but i have heared nothing but good things about, i know he is a very veritile player but what is his prefered position? is it left back or centre back? i hope he makes a quick recovery from injury.

I for one am glad to see Ajax taking a no-nonsense approach regarding John's knee. Dr.Steadman has a great reputation for his work with athletic knee injuries.I believe he has also worked with Jamie Redknap. After the complications suffered as a result of last season's injury and subsequent surgery, this course of action is definitely best for the player.Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to John.

This is intersting news (found it on VI Planet.nl):

Johnny Heitinga's knee injury will be treated in the U.S. He will undergo knee surgery by Dr Richard Steadman in Colorado, a knee- specialist. Steadman operated the knees of Manchester United players Ruud van Nistelrooy and Roy Keane (who had equally bad injuries) and did an excellent job. Heitinga and the Ajax medical staff agreed that Heitinga should give it a try at Steadman's clinic as well.

Devastating news at the hospital for John today. His cruciate cartilage is fully torn off. He's out for six months at least. It's confirmed by Ajax.nl; Ajax USA news report will appear on the homepage within two hours.

This is a tragedy. A similar knee injury (the other knee) cost him the entire second season's half of last season. The second half against NAC marked his return to official Ajax-1 action since February. And now he's out again. Another half year down the drain.

So sad. All the best to Johnny. He must be so miserable right now. He's only 18.

Ajax Netwerk.to reports that Johnny Heitinga will not join the squad to their De Lutte training camp. The defender is not yet fully recovered from the knee injury that kept him sidelined for the large part of the second season half, last season. He will train with Young Ajax in Amsterdam to get fit. Heitinga thinks he will be back to play in Ajax' friendly games against international opponents (Celtic FC, Nowich City, Manchester United and FC Barcelona) in late July and early August.

Apparently, Heitinga is the only injured player left, which indicates that André Bergdølmo (who missed the Zeeburgia game due to an injury) is back with the squad.

Too bad to see Johnny Heitinga out for 6 weeks. I have really liked what I have seen from him so far.

I mentioned him during the summer while playing for Holland in the Toulon Cup from France, then the World Youth Cup in Argentina, and if I do say so myself I think I was pretty accurate about his ability.

Anyway, his absence is a tough break for both him and Ajax. His future is very promising, and don't be suprised to see him in the Orange shirt down the road. Again quality defenders are a must for Holland, and I think this guy has what it takes.

Am I way off base or does Ajax.nl has a story re: Johnny Heitinga and an injury he has suffered?

Menno For once I don't agree with you - Being English I hope and pray that they do Fuck-up big time so that we will have a chance of going through !!!! If van der Vaart plays up to his usual standard then boy will England have problems.

You'd almost forget, but Johnny Heitinga is so young that he wasn't even old enough yet to play for 'Young Oranje'. This will probably change this weekend: Johnny was selected for by Young Oranje coach, Mark Wotte, for the first time, for the crucial play-off tie with Young England. The first game is in FC Utrecht's Galgenwaard Stadium (on Friday); the return will follow four days later (Tuesday) in the stadium of Derby County.

Other names in the squad that may sound familiar: Rafaël van der Vaart, Youssouf Hersi and Andy van der Meyde.

Come on boys. Don't fuck it up like the big guys did.

Hi Yvonne, you're right I didn't see a minute of the tournament in which he played. Too bad, but I think we will see Heitinga a lot this season. Chivu will probably play on the left side of the defense (especially now De Cler is injured) and that gives him the opportunity to play in the center of the defense - although I think that Co will start with Pasanen and Yakubu. But if that doesn't work out, or if one of the two gets injured Heitinga can take his chance.

Hello

If you don't have seen him playing you don't have looked at the World Cup (till 20) in Agentina. He was there this summer with Holland and he was the captain, he's only 17 years old. This is his first season in AJAX 1 i hope Co Adriaanse will given him many minutes to play so he will be the star of AJAX. The same as his friend Rafael van der Vaart has got last year.

Many greats from Holland Yvonne

I never have seen him play, but people who have say he is very talented. It wouldn't surprise me if this season will be his break through. And he is a born leader as well - we need that in the defense. I'm really looking forward to see the guy play.
