Hog wormer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Can anyone tell us of alternative methods of worming pigs? We have been waiting on our local feed store to get a new shipment in for weeks only to be told today they can no longer get any kind. Seems that drug users have been buying it up and some how turning it into illegal drugs!! I remember years back in an issue of Countryside this being covered-but that issue is missing from my collection!!! Thanks!! Susie

Since when is Ivermectin and Pyrantel pamoate hard to get? Call 1-800- JEFFERS or www.kvet.com for ample supplies of all kinds of wormers at cheap prices, much cheaper than from your feed store or vet.

Not sure where annie@1st.net got her web address, but I don't think a radio station in Austin, TX (http://www.kvet.com), will have much to say about hog wormer. Makes me a little dubious about calling the 800 number she listed ... no telling WHAT conversation might arise from that bit of allowing my fingers to do the walking! I wish you the best in finding the answer to your question and will watch with interest.

Many feed food grade Diatomaceous Earth, either by daily measurement (2% of the feed) or free fed.

Free-feeding DE...do they really eat it? Could I put a tub of it out in the pasture where pigs, cows, sheep, goats, & geese live, or is there someone there who should not have it. I have been thinking about trying DE for some time now.

Get tramisol, anywhere, if not in the feed store get it through Pipestone. It is the orginal pig wormer but has great result with sheep. It is what I use on my sheep.

Many thanks Rogo, for correcting my website address mistake, too quick with the typing and too slow on the correcting!!! But as all of us old time farmers know, 1-800-JEFFERS is good to go!!! KV Vet Supply's phone number is 1-800-423-8211, I actually prefer them, they put out a Master Catalog of over 400 pages, if they don't got it, your critter's don't need it!!! Can't beat their prices anywhere!

I truly hope that my response above wasn't offensive ... it was only placed as a "giggle source" response! Lord knows that all of us, no matter what stage we are in our homesteading adventure, need the giggles and laughter in our lives every day!

God bless you all!

P.S. Thanks for the correction on the web address! I will look it over!
