Oh gosh, I'm such an incredible klutz! Me and the ugly duckling have one thing in common - we are both only graceful in water. If there's a chair or a table in the room, I'm bound to bump into it. I'm forever finding bruises on my legs and I don't remember how I got them because it's so common for me to run into things that it rarey fazes me anymore.

My most spectacular injury (and trust me, there've been some doozies) was when I was walking down the hallway in bare feet and I broke my foot. Not a toe, not an ankle, but an actual foot bone. I didn't trip. I just turned it to one side and *snap*.

Proof that my friends and family know how clumsy I am? When she heard what happened (and after finding out that except for the broken bone I was okay), my best friend burst out laughing, and said that she'd been expecting this for years.

Speaking of toenail injuries, I had my left big toenail removed just over a week ago. It really squicked me out, but it's feeling better and I'm getting used to it. I put on a regular shoe yesterday for the first time; before I'd had to wear open-toed shoes. It's weird, but you do get used to it.

Melissa, I lost a toenail once, when I was little. I was helping my big brother take the trash out, in bare feet, and slammed one of the metal trash cans down on top of the toe. The doctor had to drill two tiny holes through the nail to release the blood that had built up under it, and the nail itself came off about two weeks later [when my little cousin stepped on my foot].

I never did learn to wear shoes, though.

Melissa, I had a similar injury about two weeks ago.

I was moving into a new office at work and I was going to paint it. I had moved all of the furniture out and the only thing left was one of those plastic floor pads - the ones that have the spikes that go down into the carpet to hold them in place, and they make it easier for a rolling chair to move around.

I was wearing open-toed shoes, and as I lifted the chair pad up, one of the spikes caught on my toenail. It not only ripped half of the nail up (so that is was hanging by a thread); it also ripped a gash into my toe (where the toe would normally be covered by the nail. Man, that hurt - and there was blood everywhere.

The nail is starting to grow back now, and it doen't really hurt anymore - I did have to wear open-toed shoes for a week, though.

The worst injury I have had involved my finger, and also happened at work (a different job). I had gone outside with my friend to talk to her while she was taking a smoke break. I worked for an internet provider, but we were in an old warehouse-type building, and the smoking area was on the back dock. The back dock was separated from the office by one of those big, thick metal loading dock doors.

It was a pretty windy day, and as we were going inside I grabbed the door handle to close the door. The wind blew really hard at that exact moment, and slammed the door very quickly. My finger was in the way.

The sharp metal edge of the door sliced my fingertip off, and took a bit of the bone with it.

I couldn't type with that hand for months. My fingertip did eventually grow back, but it is still really sensitive (this happened over a year ago).

Owwww. Owwwwwww. Oh, the horror of the toenails! And of having your fingertip sliced off! And your poor foot! Owwwwwwww.

The foot is better today. I wimped out of removing the toenail last night. It's not infected or anything, so I soaked it, cleaned it, and bandaided it again. Hopefully the damn thing will fall off on its own or something.

Ok, so where do you want me to begin? Should I talk about the time I rammed a golf cart into a parked car, got thrown off and broke my thumb? Or should I talk about the time I cut through someone's yard only to find out they had a really big dog? Or the time I was staging a fight and fell on my chin causing me to have 10 stitches? Or the time when rammed a piece of glass through the little piece of skin that connects my right thumb and forefinger? You tell me. :-)

Phil, remind me to never come near you. I'm afraid I would get hurt just by being in your presence!

Melissa, I am sure you know this, but use lots of hydrogen peroxide. That really helped my toe to heal quickly.

Chyna,

It's not like it all happened in like a week. I've been accident free for at least 10, 15 minutes now. :-)

Phil
