Celebrating the 10th Anniversary: A Contest?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

Through arrangement with the generous staff of Tone Casualties, the publisher for the Drew Neumann album that contains music from the Aeon Flux series, I have a couple of copies of the album graciously autographed by Mr. Neumann for the puposes of giving away.

I imagine it would be possible to dig up some other things for prizes, like the statue, or a custom shirt or something. But rather than have a random drawing, I'm thinking it would be more interesting and fun to have a contest of some sort.
For obvious reasons, the name of said contest can't contain the words "Aeon Flux". So, I was thinking of using the words "Xulf Neoa" instead.

Since the prizes aren't of grandiose monetary value, it would be hard to justify contest submissions that take weeks to complete (like if it were an Art contest and someone were to submit a 10' by 10' intricately detailed oil painting).

So, ideas anyone?

Oops, just read Victor's post about the the Drew Neumann autographed album. For that I would gladly agree to a contest, bring it on VictorV: Xulf Newoa!

How about an online quiz or something? 5 or 10 questions about the show, and then randomly choose the winner(s) from those who answered correctly?

how about a 'ten years on' drawing contest? we've all speculated on where aeon would be by now and how she'd appear in new stories, why don't we create our own personal interpretations of where and how we see aeon flux ten years since the last sighting...?

I dont know what the score is on getting in touch with John R. Lee and Denises Poirier these days but is there any way they could be roped in as judges and maybe possibly prize donaters? god Im pushing it...

how about a contest to write the second draft of Trevors public statement to address the massacre at the begining of The Demi-Urge? am I losing my mind?

Drawing the winner from a list of people who got the answers wrong might attract wider interest. After all it's usually done the other way around so this would be something new, and a lack of prizes of 'grandiose value', whatever that means, isn't going to draw a grandios sized audience. Xulf Neoa you all.

I'd love to see anyone's art or scripts. Actually at one time I thought about trying to draw Aeon over and over again to get fluent in the style and make my own Flux pictures, (told you I was desperate). I did end up with a mid-range fair example of Trevor and Aeon locked in a passionate romantic kiss, pose stolen from an example from a comic book named Jen or something. However I vote no on the the prize thing. Skip the prize thing is my thought.

I like steve's idea. Why not let people submit an art or writing entry, pick 2 finalists from each category, then do a random drawing between those 4 people. That way you're not excluding the "artistically challenged" or "literarily challenged" and whoever doesn't win, still has the chance to be recognized by being a finalists.

The people have spoken.

Two paths to winning. One through visual means, the other through literary means. Judging will be through the use of a voting system (similar to all those polls you see on so many websites nowadays). I think the existing systems available on the internet are desgined to prevent ballot stuffing.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read and post about the contest idea. In addition to the CDs, I'm thinking about making two unique shirts that are related to be included in the prizes. Being unique, I believe they can be classified as interpretative works of art based on a copyrighted work and thus successfully duck away from the legal issue. This idea is not set in stone as there are some logistics I have to smooth out (like finding an image that would make a wicked cool Aeon t-shirt).

Cool! All I have to say is if anyone who ever REALLY was involved in the creation of Aeon Flux has any objections, (like Peter Chung) please do speak up now so we all stay friends here. I'm sure the people of this forum would gladly respect any wishes posted. Other than that; "Let the games begin" (and where do we post the art)?

and what kind of art and writing is it going to be? is there a definite theme or stimulus for this hollagog or is it an creative free-for-all?

-- steve (steppenwolf@breathe.com), July 15, 2001.

The contest will be a free for all, with certain constraints to be posted on the announcement.
