Moonlit saguaro cacti at Gates Pass, Tucson Mountain Park, Arizona. Minolta 35mm @ f/2.8, 6 min., E100VS. Please comment. I'll be going back out when I get back to AZ in September and welcome suggestions to improve my technique.

Position of saguaro negates overall effect. Like previous picture better.

I like the stars, but concur that I think the previous picture was better. Maybe try getting in close to the cactus, and get only one of them in the scene? My favorite compostitions are simple ones. You might have better luck with the star effect with no moon. Try a half-hour to an hour exposure- you will find that those long exposures are very flexible on time. Also, the star streak effect is more effective when the North Star is in the pic; if you can recognize the big dipper, you can find it easily.
