flash and macro lens

1)does 380ex flash only suit elan 2e? can the high speed synchronizaton be used with eos 300? 2)Is a macro lens with a smaller closest focusing distance better ? thanks

Answers

1a) No. It's a decent flash for any E-TTL capable EOS camera. (EOS 50/Elan II, 30/Elan 7, 500N/Rebel G, 300/Rebel 2000, 3 & 1V as well as the APS SLR's) It was introduced with the Elan II but works fine with all other EOS cameras. With all other EOS cameras it works fine in TTL mode, but you are paying for features you don't get to use.

1b) Yes. High speed sync can be used by any of the above mentioned E- TTL capable cameras.

2) A macro lens is better if you need to focus closer. Other Canon prime lenses are very good as well, they just don't focus as close. Most macro lenses are optimized for a flat focusing field and work well for copy work as well as other macro pictures. You can get other lenses to do macro work with close-up filters or extension rings but the quality is almost always not as good. Macro lenses are often harder to focus at conventional distances (too touchy) and they cost more.
