Power out for third day in New Hampshire

Friday, June 29, 2001

BOW, N.H. - Problems at a substation interrupted power for parts of southern New Hampshire for the third consecutive day Thursday afternoon.

The Garvins Falls substation, which had caught fire Tuesday, cut off electricity to about 17,000 households and businesses for about an hour in neighboring Concord.

Several hundred were without power in the state capital Wednesday and Tuesday as many as 44,000 households and businesses went dark in communities from Manchester to Concord.

A spokeswoman for Unitil Corp. said about a third of the customers affected Thursday afternoon were restored within minutes, the rest about an hour later.

Among the buildings with interrupted power for the third day was the Statehouse.

The substation is owned by Public Service Company of New Hampshire, but shares equipment with Unitil's Concord Electric Co.

A PSNH spokesman said Thursday's outage was caused when a worker inadvertently tripped a switch during repairs.

Opps!

Lineworkers place big heavy 'shorting' jumpers on all the lines they work on. These are then connected to 'ground'. So that if someone should goof the Lineworkers are not turned into carbon dust.
Looks like it worked as planned.
