My husband has just found out he has gallstones. I have heard there are some home remedies you can try. Does anyone know specifically what they are?

My 81 year old Aunt just found out she has gallstones too. Because of her age, she is high-risk for surgery. Her MD told her to start using peppermint oil. I know you can buy it in capsules but a friend of mine use to grow it for retail. He suggested making a tea out of it. I believe you can get peppermint oil in a drugstore or maybe grocery store. The friend said to experiment with the strongest tea you can drink. The capsules will dissolve in the stomach, so if you have stomach problems this will irritate it more. Hope this helps.

Kathy, I do not know the exact answer to this, but I understand changing your diet helps and may cure it. I had may gallbladder and gallstones removed and now I wish I had known better. I went with the pain and throwing up for almost a year before I found out what it was. By that time I was so desperate I would have done just about anything! The docter did not realize how much pain I was in and was surprised to find the stones also. It was 2 seperate surgeries! Try not to be in a hurry with this! I do know that not eating greasy food helped me a lot. Anyway my bowel movements have never returned to normal. I watch what I eat a lot closer now, but will still have spasms on that side if I eat fried foods to often. I just feel the gallbladder is a very important body part and sometimes surgeons are quick to cut! I will pray for your hubby too, if he is having the pain I had I feel for him! Lynn

It sounds sickening but this really works: At bedtime drink 1/2 cup olive oil mixed with 1/2 cup grapefruit juice or lemon juice. After you drink this concoction, curl up in a fetal position. The next morning you will pass the gall stones.

I am just quoting from ENCYCLOPEDIA OF NATURAL MEDICINE by Murray and Pizzorno:

'A popular remedy for gallstones is the so-called 'liver flush'. There are several variations. A typical one involves drinking i cup of unrefined olive oil with the juice of two lemons in the morning for several days. Many people tell tales of passing huge stones while on the live flush. However what they think are gallstones might be simply soft saponified complex of minerals, olive oil and lemon juice, produced within the gastointestinal tract.

The liver flush is possibly undesirable for several reasons. First, consuming a large quantity of any oil with cause the gall bladder to contract, which may increase the liklihood of a stone blocking the bile duct. This could result in cholecystitis, requiring immediate surgery to prevent death. Second, oleic acid, the main component of olive oil, has been shown to increase the development of gallstones in rabbits and rats by increasing the content of cholesterol in the gallbladder. Although this effect has not yet been observed in humans, the animal research may suggest it may be unwise to use an olive oil liver flush as a treatment for gall bladder disease."

Take it for what its worth.......we all have different experiences.....

Gall stones are probably mainly a result of poor diet; mainly lack of fiber. Too much refined 'food', devoid of nutrients. If you eat food from the neighborhood grocery most of your life, cuz you think its economical, you'll pay the price eventually.

Detoxify your body immediately. Eat only organic, pasture-raised animal protein and legumes whenever possible. Eat lots of fresh, raw foods. Make sure your carbohydrates come from whole grains, seeds, nuts. Drink lots of pure, clean, naturally-mineralized water.

DONT EAT SUGAR IN ANY OF ITS FORMS!!!!

Here are some supposed gallstone dissoving formulas, listed in order of effectiveness: (one to three times a day, best if used with ursodeoxycholic acid)

menthol 30 mg menthone 5 mg pinene 15 mg borneol 5 mg camphene 5 mg cineole 2 mg citral 5 mg

note: peppermint oil in an enteric-coated capsule can be used instead of the gallstone-dissolving formula; at a dosage of 1-2 caps three X/day between meals.

I have more suggestions if anyone is interested; too much to type here right now for possibly disinterested audience.........

Blessings and good health,

My sister has had terrible pain that has been relieved by applying oil topically. Mix one teaspoon essential oil of peppermint in one ounce of good quality vegtable oil and apply to right rib cage, sternum to spine. Be sure to test a small patch of skin for sensitivity as this is a strong mixture. Peppermint essential oil can be purchased at most pharmacies and will run about 6-12 dollars an ounce. It feels like liquid ice and may produce a chill.
