Ops! this one is a Mirro-matic

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

It is my mirro-matic canner that I can't find a gasket for, not the Presto. The hardware store carries a black gasket that is supposed to fit my model, size, and brand but it hisses and spits quite rudely at just under 10 pounds of pressure. I remember seeing an old post about the original gray gaskets but can't find it in the archives. Thanks for the Presto site, I plan to look through their recipe section when time permits.

I know what you mean! I tried to find the right gasket for my mirromatic and had the same problem. The hardware store swore it was the right one. I had to use something and then I remembered seeing my grandmother doing something with her huge mirromatic canner. Try putting vege oil around the gasket before putting it in the cover. It forms a seal and has worked for me. You will have to learn just how much to use, though. I have two and they both take a different amount of oil. I assume it is because they are different model numbers.

Lynn, my new one did the same thing and the veggie oil worked.

I will gladly try the oil today. Thank you!
