Postage Rates to Go Up on 7/1/01 (Misc.)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

While it doesn't seem to have been widely publicized, most of the postage rates other than one-ounce, first class will go up the first of July. For example, for each ounce over the first, the postage is increased by one-cent (e.g., $.56 rather than $.55 for two ounces). Don't know if they have already updated the site, but the new rates will be available on www.usps.com.

Those other folks who sell on-line need to adjust your shipping costs accordingly.

Isn't it 2 cents for each additional ounce? So 2 ounces would be .57 and Three would be .80. Also, certified is going up and money orders. It is posted on the usps.com site plus your local post office should already have little cards to hand out.

Certified is going up to $2.10 and money orders are going up to .90.

I brought up to the guy at the post office one day how it irks me to no end that I get all this junkmail crap delivered to my house without me wanting it and without my permission, and the junk mailers get cheaper bulk rates....and then my postage rates go up because of the volume of mail! I have to then burn it or haul it all 6 miles to the dump. I told him I thought junk mailers should have to pay the same, and maybe they'd stop sending it my way... and they'd have less mail to deal with. Know what he said? "Yeah, but those junk mailers keep a lot of postal workers employed. If they didn't send it, a lot of folks would lose their jobs." Is this twisted reasoning, or what?

I had no idea about the junk rate (well I guess I did but didn't think that was the reason for rate increase). Paying my bills today I had to stop and think of what postage is, I had some stamps with no amount on and some with 34cents and other with 33. Are they going up so quickly that people can't remember what amount to put on their mail or am I just losing it?
