something about eos300

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

i own a eos 300 and i have some questions to ask. 1.what will happen if i accidentally open the camera back while a film is still present? 2.once i try to focus manually the MF symbol(in lcd) blinks, what does it mean? can i release the shutter if this happens? 3.what shutter speed should i set to prevent camera shake? 4.the user manaul say that if only a night scene is to be taken, use landscape mode, why? 5.is there any warning for shutter speed slower than 1/focal length ? thank very much

1. Not much if the film is wound back completely, otherwise what's still outside is useless. (Assuming the Eos 300 spools the entire film out first and then rewinds each exposed frame into the canister.).

Otherwise, RTFM. Why don't you simply press the shutter release to see whether it takes a picture while "MF" is blinking? AFAIK the Eos300 has no custom functions; in the higher models, CF 666 set to '1' activates the self-destruct function; if you then press the shutter release while pressing the rewind button, rotating the command dial, and rotating the main dial, the thing goes "boom". (At least the special versions for German military intelligence did, we used them because Leicas exploded, but their solid metal bodies would contain the explosion).

Why be a punk about it? Just answer the perfectly legitimate questions.

1.Nothing bad to the already-exposed film, the non exposed film will be wrecked. 2. You can always release the shutter in MF mode. 3. The general rule is 1/focal length. This of course varies for light and how shaky a camera holder you are. 4. I don't know. Maybe it is just a suggestion that landscape mode is as good as any other mode if you wanted to take a night time picture. 5. No. The shutter speed will blink only if it's too slow to properly expose the film.

While I completely agree with answering questions, I must say that I think that Oliver was trying to interject some humor into the forum -- and succeeded. I got quite a chuckle out of Cfn "destruct mode"!

Besides, you did a very fine job with your followup. That's one of the great things I've found with this forum -- so many people are willing to share their knowledge & experiences.
