SAL station fire

SAL historians will be interested to learn that the old SAL station in Columbia, SC, which is currently the Blue Marlin Restaurant, was severely damaged by a fire yesterday (June 24, 2001). The owners have indicated that they intend to repair and reopen the building.

Answers

The fire was reportily caused by a short in the neon lights that go arround the eaves of the 1903 SAL station. The main dameage was to the roof and the attic of the historic station. Repairs will be made within the next 3-4 months.
