hello, i am situated in India, asia. I guess I am quite in your position too.i have been trekking the higher himalayas for about 6 years now. i started at a very young age. till now i have been going to quite some heights and always ended at the base camps of some really big peaks, 6thousanders and 7 thousanders. now i have decided to start climbing peaks myself. for this firstly i have started doing some rock climbing and also learnt the use of ropes, knots and other safety helps. i am learning all this by surfing on the net, imagining the use of equipment , photographs and also by regularly questioning the already exp. climbers. i also plan to do a basic and advance mountaineering course shortly but would have climbed some 5 thusanders by then. i dont think that whatever i have written above would be any great help to you. if you could specify some questions i would be happy to answer it for you. please feel free to write. hope this makes you do what is probably life to me. allthe best gandharv.

There is a great book called "The Freedom of the Hills" that is highly regarded as a primer on mountaineering.

I can't stress how important it is that you learn from an expert, and not a book or a website. I'd suggest taking a trip or scheduling a training with a professional guide. It's expensive, but when knowledge and experience are the only things keeping you safe, it's worth the money.
