Leica M2 - Frameline Selector problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Greetings,

I have an M2 and Summicron 2/50. And here is the problem, When I mount the lens, and locked it in its position (the distance mark is in 12 o'clock position), the supposed 50mm frameline is not displayed fully, I mean I still could see the frameline, but it's kind like half of the correct width. But if I turn the lens (relative to its mount) slightly beyond its correct position [towards 1 o'clock position and of course after pushing the release button :-)], the frameline could be displayed fully.

The question is: - 1. Assuming the problem could be rectified, How could I rectify the problem? is that a simple adjustment required or should a professional do that? 2. Is it safe and accurate enough to mount the lens and not lock it in its correct position (slightly)?

Thanks in advance for your help, sorry for my bad english, i hope you could understand what I meant :-)

regards hans

It is not a difficult adjustment but the top plate has to come off to do it. This will require special tools and so it is better to send it to a good Leica tech. You probably should get a CLA at the same time considering the age of the camera.
