Seaboard wreck summer of 1945

during the summer of 1945 i was a passenger enroute from Macon,Ga. to Jax,FL on a late night run. at approx. 2:30 AM i was awakened by being violently thrown from my seat into the aisle, along with a number of other passengers, not seriously hurt myself (cuts and bruises). there were, however, some passengers that were a bit more serious. it was quite a while before anyone knew what had happened. as i recall the train had derailed. beyond this i don't remember much of what occured afterward. i seem to recall eventually being trnsferred, along with other passengers to another train. can anyone furnish additional info about this incident?

Michael, I really appreciate the info. There have been eyebrows raised (in the past)when I told of this incident. Finally, vindication.

Fred-The accident you are referring to occurred on the Southern Railway on its line between Macon Ga and Brunswick Ga at a town called McGriff which is 32.7 miles south of Macon at 2:55 am. Southbound train #7 hit the rear cars of a Northbound Southern freight #52 which did not fully clear the mainline and the crew did not properly flag. 28 were injured.
