Bridal Veil Falls, South Dakota

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

This picture was taken around 3pm April 2001 at Bridal Veil Falls, South Dakota. The condition was very nice and sunny, the sky was clear. Taken with Nikon F5 3D matrix metering, Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro at f/11. I believe I used speed of 1/2 seconds with polarizing filter and overexposed by 1/2 stop. Film: Fuji Velvia rated at ISO 40. Scanned with Minolta ScanDual II. Auto Levelling by Photoshop. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

Nice Picture. I think it would be improved with the use of a 2 or 3 stop graduated split soft neutral density filter to hold back the light on the bottom part of the falls so you could get some detail in the uppeer right part of the picture.

I did not bring the graduated ND filter when taking that pic. Yes I agree that I need to used the graduated ND filter. Thank you.

I finally tricked Geocities into displaying your image. I'd like to see some more detail in the upper half, but even with an ND grad it's a high-contrast scene and it's not likely to come out as well. I like the lens flare effect on top from the sun.
