Bombjack

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I think that it is a good idea to split Bombjack into two categories.

After playing Bombjack on Deca 2001 with a 5 men only rule, I think that could be an option. I also talked with Lord Gaz about it and he proposed a 1 man rule.

I suggest a bombjack TG/marathon version (wich it is now on marp), and a shorter more tourney like version like 5 men only or 1 men only etc.

Let me hear your opinions about it guys!

Regards

Yes this sounds like it would be fun but I feel it would set a new precedent at marp and there would be cries for many other games to be split into a one life category too, for example MrDo! :-).

There is also the question of whether the clones should be split and the dip switch settings etc.

But yes for Bombjack one life only (I prefer this to five lives) makes it a different game! with the emphasis on going for points and taking risks in the early stages. Also would there be anyone other than QRS and myself battling over this variation although there are probably people in Hisa's part of the world who could score well into the millions on one life without batting an eyelid.

While I do agree the bombjack thing needs to go to five men only, and I don't know if it is or not - Pat Laffaye, the regulation coordinator, makes the final call here.

I will comment that he really only splits if the games or the paths of the game are different to my knowledge.

Now... as with track and field, I wouldn't mind this game be split up with the marathon worth zero points and the five man worth the usual 100 points... but again, I'm not the one who judges here :) GB9

I thought the Bombjack scores were reset to 5 men only, but we'd need to doublecheck. This is what I believe the settings should be because the MARP system is simple--TGTS or DEFAULT. If TGTS allows extra lives for Bombjack, then TGTS could be changed to a harder setting. Hence, I don't think it's a good idea to introduce a one man rule just for this game. Reason: we would need to start tracking exceptions and there would be way to many (in fact perhaps all?!) Yea, just think, a new MARP LB category -- 1 man scoring for all 3000 MAME games. Let's face it the game has been mastered and that's that.

Likewise, it seems contradictory to add a category for marathonable games. This is a site to show off skill not watch 1/2 day long INPs. Furthermore, I can't see giving out extra LB points for this. Scores will be based on 5 men only (1 round only for T&F) on these types of games (e.g Bombjack, Joust, Q*Bert, etc.) You can marathon if you wish, but at the appropriate time the confirmer will stop watching and record the score.
