The cat was away so this mouse played; took 24 to go to Sebstian inlet, located 18 miles below Melbourne, Florida on the Atlantic and it has been quite a few years since being there last. The inlet was formed back in the 1920,s by some one who wanted to take his sailboat to the ocean, had the money to dig a channel from the Indian River to the Atlantic, a distance of about 600 yards. There is a condition related to tides known as eroison; this channel is now about 200 yards wide and the tidal changes makes the water go through at about 40 mph, so fast that volkswagon size boulders had to be put in to stop the eroison.

My first visit to this place happen at about age 6; we,de get up at about 3 am., climb into Dads 52 Chevrolet Sedan and be there at daylight. There was one light pole and light about halfway on the inland side, the ocean side was nothing but dunes and native foliage, the inland side- just foliage. Traveling that 18 miles now yeilds a view of $300,000.00, tripple story monuments to money, named in either Spanish or French styles. These structures are hurricane bait, maybe 50% will be standing after we get a good one; and a good one we do need.

All those mansions, time share condos, rentals are sucking the ground water away to a percent of remainder that will not be adequate beyond the next seven years. But yet, the developers keep selling the "sizzle", not the steak. Our politicans, most of whom were lawyers first, are doing nothing to check the growth.

In my home area of west of Orlando there is a 2000 acre lake, called Lake Johns (near Kiliarny for you who are familiar), today there is 157 acres still covered with water; trepid, stale water with only trash fish and stink. Game fishing will be a thing of the past in Florida very soon; their going to turn it into a desert during my lifetime....yet the developers continue...unchecked. Two little lakes on route 50, that I have seen splashing over the highway are now Motocross and ATV race tracks fifty feet deep with no water.

Some of the spring fed lakes are still O.K. and their value as building lots are increasing (if you like paying more for the lot than the mansion). Be very weary of purchaseing any thing listed as water front in Florida....

Mitch, it isnt only florida, here in calif, in the bay area they have plowed down some of the best farms in brentwood and have been putting up 400,000 dollar homes and three golf courses! Only thing is brentwood gets its water from a well and with all this paving over of the ground and all the extra houses ,and the watering of the golf courses it a short matter of time tell they run out of water, and still they build! As the song says they paved over paradice and put up parking lots
