Overpopulation issues

Oh, this one is a hoot!! How far into left field is this group?? Just another example of how to cheapen human life: The voluntary human extinction movement. "May we live long and die out" This reminds me of a book written by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka called "Nature's End" where the only solution was the the de-population movement, the elimination of a third of the world's population, by force... extinction

Actually, it looks to me like a group trying to make a serious point using humor.

Also, it seems to me there is not much similarity between voluntarily having no children and "the elimination of a third of the world's population, by force."

Whatever happened to good old fashioned war, pestilance and famine? Relax folks, it is all self-regulating.

oh year nip, they're a real gas, aren't they? For better shits and giggles, try the fine folks over at the gaia liberation front, they'll have you in stiches!!!

Don't forget asteroid impacts, comets, solar flares, massive volcanic eruptions.... nature can take care of itself, as it has proven itself over the last 5 billion years....

Sure the earth can take care of itself. We're the ones who seem to be having difficulty.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with encouraging people to adopt before, or instead, or reproducing themselves. The number of children who need homes is appallingly high.

Tarzan, you missed the point of the web site.... Nobody is gonna argue with you on your opinion, being as true as it is.... Vhemt and the gaia liberation front don't want children, period.... humans are parasites, we don't belong as part of the biosphere ( you know, the same biosphere that gave rise to us). They feel we should just give up, turn cowards, after all, the problems facing us are too great to overcome, right?? It's easier to just *die out*. extremisms are indeed for the cowards, I choose to fight for the future.

So let them all commit suicide. What a noble gesture.

Vhemt and the gaia liberation front don't want children, period.

If you'd read their FAQ on biology and breeding, you would see that this isn't necessarily the case. While VHEMT is opposed to creating more children, they encourae their readers who feel the need for chidlren to parent existing children rather than create new children. This line, from their Ecology FAQ, is a good example:

Plenty of young people could benefit from some responsible parenting. Those of us who are so inclined may rightly be proud of accepting the challenge and responsibility of parenting an existing child.

The work of preserving and restoring what's left of Earth's biosphere won't be finished in our lifetimes, so it's critical that we include younger people, giving them the opportunity to carry on the work. However, creating more of us to carry on is unnecessary and counter- productive.

In addition to encouraging their members to adopt rather than breed, VHEMT is open about accepting members who already have reproduced.

It's easier to just *die out*.

Given as how they have an opinion that's extremely unpopular(to put it lightly) and how they'll have to convince a sizeable percentage of over 6 billion people to make it work, there is absolutely nothing easy about their work.

;-)

Tarzan, you got that right. They have bitten off more than they can chew I think from a lot of the responses I've read on their message board!!! From all I've read on them, they do believe in their cause, but more than likely they choose the most radical method/most radical veiwpoint to get their message out and to make people at least talk about the problem and in that, they've succeeded...

Lars, they've got your suggestion covered too... though I haven't read up on The Church of Euthanasia yet... here's their website ... Church of Euthanasia Be sure to check out their *family album!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHURCH OF EUTHANASIA The Church of Euthanasia was inspired by a dream, in which Rev. Chris Korda confronted an alien intelligence known as The Being who speaks for the inhabitants of Earth in other dimensions. The Being warned that our planet's ecosystem is failing, and that our leaders deny this. The Being asked why our leaders lie to us, and why so many of us believe these lies. Rev. Korda awoke from the dream moaning the Church's infamous slogan, Save the Planet - Kill Yourself. Every aspect of the deepening global environmental crisis, including climate change, poisoning of the water and atmosphere, reduction of biodiversity, and topsoil erosion, directly results from the over- abundance of a single species: homo sapiens. The human population is increasing by one million every four days, according the Washington- based Population Reference Bureau. This is a net increase of 95 million per year, the current population of Mexico. Even a major war or epidemic hardly dents the rate of growth, and modern wars have tremendous environmental consequences. It is for these practical reasons, as well as moral ones, that Euthanasians support only voluntary forms of population reduction, including suicide, free abortion, and sodomy, which they define as any sexual act not intended for procreation. They are also fiercely vegetarian, and support cannibalism for those who insist on eating flesh. The planet is a living, breathing organism, and is capable of defending itself if necessary. The Church hopes to avoid the suffering this would entail by achieving a massive leap of consciousness in which human beings begin to think of themselves, not as individuals belonging to races or nation-states, but as a species. This species awareness would be the first step towards what Biodiversity author and population expert Paul Erlich calls "our absolute responsibility to protect what are our only known living companions in the universe."

Surely you haven't lost so much of your sense of humor that you no longer notice subtle parody, Rob.

Almost Tarzan, but a severe lack of sleep can do that to a person!! LOL!
