Nightcrawler qustion

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm looking for advice on nightcrawlers. We are blessed with a vigorous colony in our yard. We harvest by the moonlight/flashlight/dampnight method. I was thinking about burying a 3-gal. plastic tree pot half full of coffee grounds in the yard hoping the nightcrawlers will migrate into it for easier harvesting. Has anyone tried this or better methods?

Yes, that is a type of trap. Shredded newsprint and garden scraps will work better as bait.

If you have a chain saw, then you have a good bait catcher. Just start it up and lay it down on the ground where you know there are worms. The fibration on the ground will cause the worms to come up to the top and all you have to do is pick them up.
