Gitzo G1548 for 8x10

I am thinkging of using a Gitzo G1548 to support my Wisner 8x10. Is this tripod larger than I need for this camera? Would the lighter G1348 due? Has Gitzo fixed the probelm it once had with the legs of carbon fiber tripods coming unglued?

I'm looking at the specs on the G1548 right now and, though I haven't seen the tripod personally, I seriously doubt that it would be too large for your needs. My Ries A100 and head weighs at least 2x as much as the G1548 would, and I've never once regretted having a tripod as big as that for my Deardorff 8x10. Granted, I wouldn't mind having something a little lighter, but even at 15+ lbs, I don't consider it to be too big. The G1348 would probably do a reasonably good job with your Wisner, too, but I have to wonder how light is too light? I don't know about you, but I'd be wary of putting something like an 8x10 on a 4 3/4 lb tripod, no matter what it's made out of. But then that may just be me...

I use the Gitzo 1348 or 1349 (whichever one has no center column) with an Ebony SV810U, which weighs about the same as the Wisner Expedition. It is solid as a rock. As I travel quite a lot with my 8X10, the smaller 'pod has lots of advantages. I do not think you'll have any trouble with the 1348/1349 (I recommend choosing the one with no center column for greater stability).

Happy shooting!

Ditto to Nathans answer above, I use the 1348 with no center column with a Toyo 8x10, which is the heaviest 810 of them all, its rock solid, no complaints after 2 years of use. I even use it with an Arca B1 Ballhead, so the tripod and head is only 6 lbs total!
