Problems when capturing a PAL video

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I'm using the ATI All-in-Wonder to capture my PAL video and convert it into MPEG-1, but when I playback the mpg file it seems to be corrupted. After playing it for a while (approx. 40+ secs), the screen freezes but the audio continues. Also, before the screen freezes, I've noticed that the mpg file is sometimes appears to be darker. I've tried several different PAL tapes but still have the same result, but I don't have the same problem when capturing an NTSC video. So what could have happened? Is there any solution? I'm using a PIII-733 and 256 RAM computer. Thanks.

There are distinct and different models for NTSC and PAL/SECAM where ATI AIW is concerned. Yours happen to be NTSC only. This is all through the capture codec, and NOT just the tuner. It's one reason ATI AIW costs a few dollars less compared with, say, Matrox Marvel, which allows capture of PAL, NTSC and SECAM with one model.

Try a different software to make capture , not ATI software My recomendation software : -Virtual Dub -Windows media Encoder -Ulead Media Studio -Adobe Premiere And use some codec to make compresion in real time! good luck DAN

this is a problem of the ati driver, i had the same problem, it freezes after cca 35 seconds of capturing, and you only get blank screen from then on get the new drivers...
