Grainy prints from HP5+ film

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I bought a bulk roll of Ilford HP5+ film. I made a couple of twelve exposure rolls. When I developed them, the negs look fine. I printed a couple of shots on Kodak Polymax II 5x7 paper and they were very grainy. Any idea what could have happened?

1. Over development 2. Too much agitation 3. Over exposure 4. Printing with too much contrast 5. Perhaps you are not use to the grain structure of traditional, high speed emulsions. 6. Radical temperature change between processing baths.

Without further details as to exposure & processing, these seem the most likely causes.

I also use Ilford HP5+ but develop using 2 bath (split D76) at 5 min per bath. Very happy with negs
